Hi, I’m looking for occasional Class 1 weekend work. I am based in the Northumberland / Tyneside area. I have a Mon- Fri job, so only have weekends free. I have my DCPC and a current ADR licence and Tacho card. Have had my licence for almost 3 years, but haven’t driven for a living. Did some ‘refresher’ training recently and had no problem whatsoever.
Am I best signing up with an agency? If so can anyone recommend one in the North East? Or am I better off enquiring with local haulage firms?
Any advice would be most appreciated!

Mon-Fri job counts as ‘other work’, so to stay within driver hours regs you will probably have only one driving day available per fortnight. In that week you’ll take only one day of rest so you won’t be able to do the usual 45 hour rest break. The next week you’ll have to take your full 45 hour rest and make up the shortfall from the previous week.
That would be fine as I’m only looking for occasional days. My Mon-Fri job is 37 hours.

The hours done in the m-f job and the hours done in a driving job do not get added together for WTD purposes as they are different but the m-f hours must be recorded as they cannot count as rest for the EU tacho regs
Lets say you finish at 6pm on fri and start at 8am on mon … that is 62 hours off at the weekend
45 unbroken hours of those 62 must be taken off at least every other weekend and at least 24 of those 62 must be taken off when a 45 is not taken
There must also be at least 9 hours off between shifts
This is legal
Fri 8am to 6pm followed by 630pm to 11pm driving then 9 hours off
So if I finish work at 3:30pm on Friday, I could potentially do a full shift, say, on a Saturday once a fortnight?
