In August of this year I decided to get back into driving after 10 years doing other things. I have always been class 2 & considered getting back into this to do my class 1 but since Ive returned Ive noticed a few things about the haulage industry which inclines me not to bother.
rate of pay for drivers class 1 & 2 has not increased in last 10 years ( i live West of Scotland)
agencies are still a joke ( offered £8.75 for a shift)
roads are busier, standard of driving in general is worse
everyone is stressed out.
incompetency is at epidemic levels among the shiny shoes brigade ( more work, unrealistic deadlines for less cash)
lack of organisation & understanding of job (as above)
made to feel like im doing something wrong when I use my trusty map book( only use satnav when i really have too)
definitely more jobs worths & people take their selves far too seriously

Maps!! He’s [zb] lucky!
There’s a few in the Old Timers forum who used a compass and a pair of binoculars.
There’s a few night trunkers who use a sextant to navigate by the stars, though I never quite mastered the iron nail stuck to a cork, floating in a bucket of water as a makeshift compass technique. Coz every time I turned a corner too sharp the bucket tipped over and I ended up getting lost
