Observations After 10 years out

In August of this year I decided to get back into driving after 10 years doing other things. I have always been class 2 & considered getting back into this to do my class 1 but since Ive returned Ive noticed a few things about the haulage industry which inclines me not to bother.

  • rate of pay for drivers class 1 & 2 has not increased in last 10 years ( i live West of Scotland)
  • agencies are still a joke ( offered £8.75 for a shift)
  • roads are busier, standard of driving in general is worse
  • everyone is stressed out. :imp:
  • incompetency is at epidemic levels among the shiny shoes brigade ( more work, unrealistic deadlines for less cash)
  • lack of organisation & understanding of job (as above)
  • made to feel like im doing something wrong when I use my trusty map book( only use satnav when i really have too)
  • definitely more jobs worths & people take their selves far too seriously

Rant Over
Am i wrong?

I can only assume he’s aged 90+ and will die soon.

Maps!! He’s ■■■■■■■ lucky!
There’s a few in the Old Timers forum who used a compass and a pair of binoculars.

There’s a few night trunkers who use a sextant to navigate by the stars, though I never quite mastered the iron nail stuck to a cork, floating in a bucket of water as a makeshift compass technique. Coz every time I turned a corner too sharp the bucket tipped over and I ended up getting lost

I navigate using the stars.

Yes people’s driving is a lot worse, it is rush rush, the pointy shoes are a mare for us small firm bosses as well.

Still you live in the west of Scotland and not millions of people in the Liverpool - Manchester corridor

Trouble is, the last time you used the stars, you followed the “Great Bear” and got lost on the M6 because you followed a “great bear” arctic

Brilliant

Haha I thought of them when I said it.

Branding at work right there

‘Follow the bear’

I remember the slogan, but have forgotten the lager!
