Numptys who park in the wide/ long load bays at services

I dont normally moan but this week has given me something to whinge about :smiling_imp:

I,m now working for a place that does portable building movements and most of them are 32’ long and upto 11’ wide so when youve got one on the wagon and a 10’x10’ on the drawbar it makes getting in the normal sized parking spots a bit tight .

anyway several times this week I’ve been shifting cabins from maidstone and up to, the midlands and have had to stop in services for a break, but you can guarantee that everytime some numpty has plonked, either a 7.5 tonner or a caravan, or a member of the flip flop brigade is cooking up their food on the trailer in the wide load bay.

I am surprised the staff at the garage do not ask them not to park in the wide load bay.
Maybe one day they will have a cctv camera on them and a fine arrives in the post to deter this.
If the police pull in escorting a wide load i wonder what they would do if it was blocked.
In your case and there is no room for a break i guess the exit slip road would be the only option.

I was told to park across two coach bays when this happened to me at Oxford Services back in the days I was doing extendable low loader work. It was great, right next to the shops and caff. :sunglasses:

By the way they drive and park I imagine they opt for the wide bay as they can’t reverse for toffee! Best place for this is Mimms, never see a wide/long load in the layby ever.

I would politely explain the situation and give them 2 options, either move to the lorry park thanking them in the process or they can stay where they are. But the second option will benefit no one except me.

Rownhams Services is where I come across these numptys the most.

As the wide load bay and McDonald’s are close by, as we all know a truck driver by definition won’t use a toilet but prefer to use a truck park.
So they aren’t going to bother walking the 100m from the regular truck parking area to the MSA facilities are they.

Many a time I have to bypass the wide load bay, with a 90t load and try and position it in the regular truck park, whilst the selfish trolley dollies and box jockeys enjoy their Big Macs in the wide load bay.

If there’s room for you to double park and traffic to pass do so but then … pull your curtains and if there’s
No one In the other vehicle put a note on the windscreen a bit like. Thanks for parking in a reserved bay. Please don’t waste time knocking I won’t be back for 8hours

The other side of the coin.
I used to use the long load bays when stopping for a 45 at 3.00 in the morning.
The alternative was to park correctly and wake up drivers getting their sleep.
No satisfying some.

11ft wide and your moaning you need a abnormal load bay :unamused: bet you drive up and down motorway with all lights flasing and ask for a ■■■■■■ not been funny chap but everyone else manages just fine and 11ft wide aint classed as abnormal does your route stipulate it is and if no route it aint abnormal is is gets my back up when pull in and there is something parked it there that has nothing wider than there wing mirrors on the back which is about 11ft but feel the need to take the space with a few ton box on the back

i was doing steel work 75ft long 4ms wide had to park over night on birch as t was delivery the next morning for the new bbc centre at the lowry.pulled up and the wide load bay was full of forgein trucks as them to move but siad they not get tv if they moved.by that time a police officer had turned up as i was blocking the road partly and a queue was forming.he told all 4 of the driver either move or hill will move them himself and have them clamped rill fine was payed they soon moved even parking attendent says he can not get them move when he tells them they can not use the bay.but there is a bouns u do not have to pay for overnight if u have a movement order u just put it in ur screen and show it to service people when u arrive.if they ask for cash u just say no im excempt from it and walk.
