If you have no interest in my ■■■■■■■■■ why did you come to a topic where I was talking about gay marriage, and be the person that brought up my ■■■■■■■■■ when I didn’t, then attack me for talking about homosexuality on a post about gay marriage when I was talking about it in general terms and not really bringing much of my own experience of it into it till you butted in? Be like me coming on to this topic and telling you to stop banging on about being an owner driver because no one is interested. I’ll be honest, although I don’t always agree with Carryfast, his points are always well argued, often backed up with research or experience, considered and polite. In terms of quality I would certainly put his posts in the top 5%.
Unfortunately some members sometimes become the subject of a witch-hunt and human nature being what it is, some other members feel compelled to follow the herd like farmyard animals.

Having said that it might be possible to fix some of the issues by imposing the same rates of fuel duty and taxation on all modes of transport thereby producing a level playing field in regards to fair competition between all those different modes and increasing tax revenues.In which case it’s my bet that those operators in those other transport industries wouldn’t see it your way.
At the end of the day, my belief is that freight should be moved in the most efficient and least polluting way possible.
If this means 200 containers on a train rather than 200 trucks on the road, then I can fully understand that logic.
Yes, I am a road haulier and yes I would have a vested interest in saying that freight should move by road as much as possible. As things stand though, I am a road haulier second and a rational human being first and I realise that this planet has to be left in as good a condition as possible for those who will follow me after I have kicked the bucket.
Blimey Harry the green issue is a bit like an extreme form of religeon.There doesn’t seem to be any room or place for the non believers.Although like many other forms of extreme religeon there seems to be plenty of room for hypocricy on the basis of it’s ok to burn loads of fuel when it suits but not when it doesn’t.The fact is domestic use burns loads of the stuff just like every type of transport and if it’s all about saving the planet from so called fossil fuel induced ‘climate change’ then the planet doesn’t really know or care to what effect that fuel was used.
The fact is if you’re right there can be no place whatsoever for any burning of fossil fuels.While even as the situation stands at present regarding the issue you’d need to go back to sea transport and ban air transport services.However if it’s all really about so called fuel efficiency then how is it that the rail freight industry can justify the idea of running freight trains from China when sea transport can move a lot more freight per gallon of fuel burnt.
Which is the same argument that the rail freight industry seems to use against it’s road transport industry competitors when it suits it but obviously not in it’s own case when it doesn’t as in the case of being against the idea of LHV’s for the road transport industry which would certainly improve the tonne/mile per gallon figures of the industry compared to existing trucks.While using your logic as things stand air transport should be paying ( a lot ) more fuel taxes than trucks even at present euro truck gross weight limits let alone if regulations were changed to allow LHV’s.
The fact is the whole green ‘climate change’ bs issue is just a big scam that’s being used as a way to distort the transport market to provide a trading advantage for the big business freight transport interests.Which is why both the rail and air freight industries are both exempt from the type of road fuel taxation applied to road transport customers even though trucks designed to the most fuel efficient standards,aren’t a lot less fuel efficient than trains.While aircraft are the worst possible option for hauling freight from the point of view of fuel efficiency by comparison.

It’s irrelevant to compare aircraft with trucks, totally irrelevant. Half a dozen planes arrive at Manston every evening carrying African green beans, picked earlier in the day, they are loaded onto local fridge hauliers as soon as the plane touches down. It would be ludicrous to suggest that these green beans could be transported from Africa by truck. It’s impossible to imagine any situation where goods are transported by air simply because of some Government or eu subsidy.
