Nottingham bus firm( middle east work

Norman Ingram:
Back to the Middle East, my daughter got me a book for fathers day, " Cola Cowboys" it is brand new, it was written by the journalist Franklyn Wood, I am on page 73 out of 319, I can see it would be interesting to HGV drivers who never went to the middle east! Whether TIR drivers who went ? but I will devulge what I think when I have completed the book, at this moment it seems to be a collection of tales from drivers that has been cobbled together by this author, dangerous in Belgium ? any major city in the world if you go to the wrong area you will find trouble! Low bridges in Czechoslovakia, the only ones which I encountered were in Prague and after bringing down a few cables, I learnt a way around to advoid them, cobble stones, yes you have them all the way down in the eastern block, but potholes I never saw many of those until I got to Turkey. But I will read on, it will be interesting to find out what it is like to be a "Middle East Driver ". :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:    by the way the price of the book ordered at Waterstones was £9.95

hiya,
Never did learn how to read Norm, my spelling and writing isn’t too bad but i didn’t go to school very often, you could always spot me in a group of kids i was always the black and blue one, bruises from the good hidings meted out by my parents for my non attendance in the classroom usually the beatings were dished out after a home visit by the school truancy officer who I had a love hate relationship with, she loved hunting me, I hated getting caught.

Aye,still around Norman, never really appealed to me going over t’ watter.I got the chance with A E Evans in the 70s,it was only Benelux work IIRC but there was not much difference in the money, not worth it.Over t’watter - well Severn,Kincardine,Menai,Tower and Forth Bridges were just rayt for me,same as Birkenhead,Wallasey,Tyne,Dartford,Blackwall and Rotherhithe Tunnels under t’watter.
And thas rayt,no dodgies over t’watter.

Chris, we got paid £12 per night for every night we was away on the BRS Overland, so when we was in a queue of lorries at borders, I never lost my rag, I just countered the nightout money I had made!   :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

hiya,
Dave it has been said that Norm composts out of date paper money “usually white fivers” to set his seedlings away in the greenhouse, where is he anyway?? hasn’t been on for a while and I’ve been looking out for him on Skype as well, just hope he hasn’t slipped away on that cruise without us you never know he could have hit the jackpot and keeping it to himself, tell you what if we are waiting for him to make the scene when he’s skint we’ll have a long wait.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
Norm has probably cleaned up on the lotto and the horses. He’s possibly cruising around the Mediterranean now in a fancy yacht. You might get a postcard one of these days from some exotic place.
Cheers Dave.

Lads I do not know what to do withall these millions :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:    no such luck, I booked up to see my brother Reg in Great Yarmouth, then two days before got a text to say he had bee taken to Cambridge hospital, but we still went, and he was allowed out on friday evening, and I saw him on two days, his speech is slurred & he cannot walk without a frame, he is due a operation on Aug 15th, Oxford told him it was not his tumour just a cyst needed draining, Cambridge told him after a scan that it had started to grow again and needed to be removed  He asked me what I would do, I said if you just want to keep alive and improve your condition so you can enjoy life like you was doing I would take a gamble and have the operation, but if not you may get worst with no operation, when they done the first operation seven years ago, they said they could not take too much of the tumour away or they could start a stroke. So you can see lads I have had a lot on my mind, when I was on the train I had a good gander at the Olympic Stadium as the train stopped at Stratford, the trip from Northampton to Great Yarmouth took four and half going and just under comming back. You would laugh, I put my back out on thursday doing the garden, but it looking good, I did manage a game of bowls on tuesday after returning on monday, then we had a day trip to Skegness, had a few dishes of mussells and cockles & whelks, also booked up for 5 days on the I.of Wight on 5th Sep. that my lot. Norman

Sorry to hear that you brother is still having a rough time Norm. I can see now that you have had far more important things to do,than posting on here.Hope things improve for your brother.
Cheers Dave.

Thanks for that Dave    I just got news that my brother is going in on the 14th and the next day he will have a all day operation to remove the tumour from his brain, he will be in hospital two to three months, it is a bigger one than he had seven years ago, if he gets transfered to Great Yarmouth Hospital, I might see him when I go on a day trip on the 31st, we will see! :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I wish him well Norm. Not a nice thing to have done, but if it prolongs his life and he has some better health it will be good.Hope it goes OK for him.
Cheers Dave.
