hiya,
Dave decided to give the jumps game the big E, decided instead to do a bit of thinking of what might have been you know a touch of the “if only” syndrome, i’ll bet the Grand National would be no problem to old Norm and Keith could stable his mare being a bit on the agricultural side,Dave think the cairn terrier is a great dog heart like a lion afraid of nothing, ive always been a fan and always had jack russell’s but some time ago i was too ill to give them the time and exersise they must have, and had to have them rehomed on doctors advice they was six and seven the younger was a worker and being the long legged variety could outrun a rabbit, letting them go was the hardest thing i’ve ever had to do having had dogs since being a kid,

Hi Harry,
This little Cairn is the third Ive had,he is only 20 months old, smashing little dog,a real character. I like terriers,we had Jack Russells when I was a kid,we lived at an old corn mill,my Dad drove the lorry by day and ground corn at nights, the mill was driven by an oil engine. The mill wheel was still ther but n ot working. We had to have a terrier to keep the rats down. The last Cairn I had lived to just over 18,had to have him put to sleep, its not nice to lose them, the first he was 15 and a half. Luckily we have a big garden mainly lawns with a good hedge,so he can run around as much as he likes.
Cheers Dave.
Hi boys
Dave now you’ve got interested. Where was the corn mill, what make was the oil engine, is it still there? As you see I’m a vintage nut
By the way we’ve got a boarder collie 5 years old, runs like the wind, makes me tied watching her.Used to have a golden retreaver 9 years old had to get the missis to take him to the vets when his time was up.I coulden’t take him
Regards Keith.
hiya,
Dave had a little jack that travelled with me for years just used to park up for the night feed him give him a good walk, do my thing in the digs call back just before bedtime little walk and he was fine till i came back in the morning just used to leave the drivers window down a little i defy anybody to get in the cab if i was’nt with him he was as hard as nails bought him when delivering Dudley one day, very stocky type the guy i bought him from said his parents worked badger and although i never tried to work him he looked the part, did’nt like the badger boys anyway, just found him having the long sleep in his box one morning, apart from his sight failing he seemed alright just his heart gave up he was eighteen as well, shed a few tears that day but he lived well and only needed the vet once to diagnose his sight problems cost me a lot of money to be told what i already knew, did his annual injections and that was it he was just never sick.

Hi boys
Harry you were lucky. Our golden retreaver suffered from exma and could not eat anything with wheat in it. Cost us a forture then caught next door feeding him biscuits. He was ok if he kept to the diet ( that’s what doctors keep saying don’t they) anyway they get under your skin, dogs that is, and we woulden’t be without them.
Regards Keith.
Hi Harry & Keith,
They either love going in a vehicle or not, this one isn’t that fussed. I know they will guard anything that belongs to you or the family.Keith the Mill where I lived ceased to be a mill when we moved from there in 1953,only moved a mile into the Village. It is called Holbatch Mill near Evenjobb, Presteigne. The oil engine was taken away the same time, don’t know how long it had been used, never asked my Dad,have an uncle who is in his eighties,he might know. There are a lot of old water mills around here, none working, don’t know if the mill wheel is left on any of them. There is a local vintage club with quite a few members. The next local is Kington where they have a yearly two day show,it was held a few weeks ago, think quite a few of their members have oil engines. A mate of mine who is partly retired is very much into oil engines like yourself, travels all over to shows and sales.Same here with dogs Keith we wouldn’t be without one.
Cheers Dave.
hiya,
the one that used to travel with me, George he was, the hard part was leaving him at home if i was going to be away a while, he very rarely sat or lay down when on the move he stood on the bonnet paws on the dash and barked at everything he looked out of the windscreen and never moved, and when at home friends could come in sit down but the minute they made the slightest movement as if to leave he used to go to the door and sit with his back to it and i defy anybody to get past him i had to grab his collar and hold him till they got out yet the little grandkids could come and go as they pleased and he never bothered i’m sure he thought he was human, and people say they’ve got no intelligence.

Dave, Harry, and Keith, I leave you for a few hours, and you let this thread go to the dogs!, so I say whippet it quick, ha ha ha, but then again, this last few days, it has been a little catty. When I was very young boy, I had a colly, name Trixey, it died when I was twelve, I got a whippet, named Tinker, he died when my daughter was twelve, never had another dog, but my eldest son had two whippets, they died, and it wasa few years before he had another, it is a whipper called Mac. Like harry with his lorries, once you have had them for a few years, you never want to part with them. Ps still painting. Sandman Norman
hiya,
tell you what chaps this thread is getting to be a bit WOOF, sorry, sorry, sorry, i should take the LEAD and try and bring some normality back to the thread before it goes totally to the DOGS.
thanks harry long retired.
Hi Harry, Norm & Keith,
I will let you get on with the thread about your foreign travels. I can’t contributee much about them as I have not been abroad, passed my International CPC,forgot a lot of it. But I do know that its raining cats and dogs here, oop’s sorry.
Cheers Dave.
Hi lads, one time me and colin, was holiday stuck in Cech, it was at Christmas time, the snow was thick, we booked in at hotel in Brno, at least someone was pleased, we had dinner with a family,in that country, they had Carp, I went around the market, and there was hundreds in tanks, I was asked what we had in england, I said, cockrells, chickens, turkeys, and geese, as well as joints of meat. Colin said it was the best one he had enjoyed for years, I suppose it was because he was separated from his wife. But we just could not get out in time, for they celebrate the eve, as much as Christmas day, but I did enjoy myself, but if possible I would have prefered to spend it with the kids. SAndman Norman
hiya,
Norm the only i time i did’nt get home until late Christmas Day was the one time i tipped and loaded Dundee one Christmas Eve got loaded at about 6.30pm but still had to rope and sheet, but got digs no bother and got there about 8.00pm i lived on my own at the time so it did’nt matter i was’nt home no’one to fall out with, my boss agreed to pay me 24 hrs for doing the run home the rig was an aged ERF with a 5lw in it and i think it was just about the slowest motor ever made, and although the roads was quiet it still took 9 hrs Dundee to Lancashire.

Lucky harry, I can say I have spent about a handful of christmas’s away from home, some of them was in the army, when doing lorry driving, I have run in several times at xmas morning, and still got my turkey dinner. Sandman Norman

Harry, it was not me, when I was in blandford, a chap had re-enlisted, who had been to Korea, he came out, but could not adjust to civy life, and joined the REME,he was good for information, on how to conduct ourselves, and how to do our kit. Sandman Norman
