Evening everyone
Picked up a hired horse lorry recently with analogue tacho, but the key was missing to put my chart in.
This got me thinking, (cue strange noises)
-Why do they have a removable key?
Cheers
Paul
PS When I got home I took used the key from my own truck to use the hire tacho properly.
I guess so no one can tamper with it

Now you have alerted Intertruckpol that you drove it home with no tacho!!
Not quite, manual entry on the back of the disc with a little explanatory note (signed and dated).
Cheers

Did they not have a key where you hired it from?
I’ve got a long one from a crashed Mercedes 814 on my keyring, had it for twenty years. I show it to young drivers to prove how experienced I am.
Don’t quote me on this but I was once told the key was supposed to be removed whilst tacho card was in therefore making it a sealed unit!
Not sure if its true tho, as I’ve never heard of anyone being fined for having the key in!
He didn’t know where it was!

That’s a very old, very much BS driver’s myth. The Belgians went through a period where they tried to fine drivers they found with the key in the unit, some were even daft enough to pay but if you stood your ground and argued, asked them to produce the legislation which stated the key had to be removed they would back down.
