Not strictly true but about 3 months ago I bought a couple of pairs of Dickies Fire Chief overalls with reflective bands like these.
I hate wearing Hi Viz vests, they seem more of a hinderance in my job and get hooked up as I clamber in and out of plant. I don’t like the shirts and sweatshirts as they seem to reflect in the windscreen. As my job is mostly site work and often in other industrial areas I’m amazed that no -one has insisted I put on some yellow jacket. I’d planned to argue the point that they were Hi viz but so far I’ve not needed to
Maybe no one has seen me yet
If anyone else wants any then this seller on ebay is doing a good deal, far cheaper than anywhere else. The overalls are nice and warm and good quality.
Hi-viz have been banned in my workshop as one got caught on a running engine (pulleys ) and I nearly got dragged in with it. My manager has come to the conclusion if a driver in the yard can’t see someone wandering round the yard. Then how can he/she see a member of public on the road? If we are all vigilant there is no reason for them. My ancestors and yours didn’t make this country great by wearing luminous jackets.

Oddly enough I pulled my warm Hi viz coat out today as it was bloody freezing.
I’m not anti the things, and will use common sense. If it’s dark and gloomy or there are big monstorous machines thundering about or tower cranes etc then clearly there is sense in being a lot more visible. The issue I have is a fair few of the sites I go to are small developments where the only thing that could harm me is the machine I’m bringing in or out, or sometimes just unloading some Heras panels or the like. That is a complete load of ■■■■■■■■ having to get kitted up for that sort of deal.
I do find the vests get hooked into door catches on smaller excavators and when you clamber out through the silly little door after you’ve just loaded it on the wagon you don’t really want to get snagged up as you can end up in a heap on the floor. I’m all for health and safety but applied with common sense and moderation. In my opinion my overalls are visible and I was surprised that no one has challenged me yet.
The only trouble with them overalls, is the banding isnt type 2.I agree about hi viz gear i have to wear Hi Viz Orange trousers and green hi viz top, i must look like a hi viz snowman this time of year
