Not The Best Of Days, Pictures Aswell

So I had an easy day ahead of me,
No long distance just basically local trunking for the day,

  • 3 P&O trailers needed picking up from The docks in Liverpool to be dropped in one of our yards In aintree by the racecourse.
  • One P&O trailer from Birkenhead docks take it to Kirkby
  • Then a straight forward container swap in sea forth docks take it to Goldstar Kirkby
  • Last but not least a trailer swap for Roadferry at heysham port docks.

Doesn’t sound so bad ehh? But… I had to swap between 3 wagons as one was needed for a particular trailer etc!!, and I’ve never coupled to these foreign trailers before which had no lights on the trailer I was like DIY putting bulbs and covers on every P&O trailer I coupled to!!

Also Palm Coupling… Well I taught myself how to do this, it’s a extension sort of thing which you click into these hatches on the trailer and it gives you your air lines to connect to from the unit to the trailer, also all these trailer didn’t have the windy legs so I had to borrow a spare from the docks for every trailer!!

All that aside I got to Birkenhead docks using the Wallasey tunnel £6.40 each way !!
Well the trailer I had to pick up was too low I couldn’t get under it even having lowered my unit, I called a tug driver over and even he struggled to lift it he broke the tugs suspension and grabbed another one!! He done it second time and I hitched up and took that one to Kirkby.

Now for the heysham part of the story!!
1 hour 30 mins from Kirkby to heysham with vosa behind me most of the way!! ■■■■■■■■ myself but luckily they overtook me and went into a little path on the hard shoulder of the M6.
I gets to heysham at 11pm like a needle in a hey stack looking for the road ferry trailer, I got it and off I went, half way home back to Liverpool I realised I have left my driving licence in the export office when I was booking the trailer to come out :frowning:

So not a good day and I rang up today they say they haven’t found it but I know I had it there last !! So just paid £20 for a replacement from Dvla wounder how long it’ll take !

All part of the learning process. Credit due to you for sorting it all out. Shows some initiative. Keep it up and you are going to be an asset to an employer. Well done sir!

Thanks Pete, as they say… Or as I shouted to myself in heysham docks in the pitch black using a container seal as a bolt in the windy legs for the trailer

“They don’t ■■■■■■■ teach you this on your test” haha
