Not having much luck

I’m in a limping gig which buys me some time (up to xmas at least) but I’ve recently taken stock and decided to look for a full time gig. I applied to bl trigg at swad, Swains also at swad and Nicholls at bardon. I had an interview at trigg but did not get it. Nicholls wanted to interview me, but at sittingbourne which would have meant 50 quid in fuel, 50 quid for a hotel for a night, about 100 quid in lost wages. I couldn’t justify the outlay of 200 quid on an assessment drive and a maybe job. Swains don’t answer the phone number they gave me or respond to emails. So all in all it’s not going too well. I don’t want to swap an agency job for another agency job, but if that’s the road I do take, then there’s no better time of year than now to do it.

Crack on

Try Collins earthworks, they have a big contract on the ema train hub. Or kJ transport in gresley. Even gba might be worth a ring if your local to swad

Thanks mate

Great time until Dec Jbaz.

Not so great between Jan and March mate, so if I was in your boots/flip flops it would be a case of grab a full time gig asap. Hardly any employers recruit in Nov/Dec for obvious reasons.

It might be frustrating to be £50-£100 per week down over the next couple of months, but 2 months of hardly any work will cost you a lot more fella

Have you tried explore at swad , I was told I was on there work ( Worksop ) this last week ,but refused , so there must be work

Explore out of Bison at Swad mite be worth a shout if u are looking for tramping work ? I’m surprised Swains haven’t got back to u as they seem busy at the min . Maurice Hills in Burton mite worth a shout if your after flat general work ? Archers on the A446 near the Belfry are good outfit and worth a shout Martime at Birch coppice Tamworth if u want box work ? there’s always Stobarts as they seem to doing a lot of agg industries work out of Bardon and Hulland Ward

Thanks for all the tips guys, a particular thank you to eb, I was expecting ■■■■■■■■■■ but got sensible replies, so many thanks. There are a few good leads there I will be following up. I work at stobarts now so I know they ain’t taking on any full timers at the moment. Swains got back to me, I have an assessment drive on Thursday, so fingers crossed

Try maritime at Bardon or UB at Ashby.

Try GBA, get in touch with the main office at Preston ( Hesketh Bank ) they have a depot at Swadlincote, but if your wanting tramping and don’t mind being away for a few weeks and doing European you could get based at Royston.

Thanks grumpy dad and thanks rich, I’ve already applied to maritime but never thought of ub, they’re just down the road from me.

Not so great between Jan and March mate,

Kick the hell out of the agency work until December working all the hours you can and banking as much money as you can. Use holidays in January and do the odd day here and there for Jan/Feb/ until the work picks up when the weather is crap living off what you earned up to Xmas being nice and warm indoors whilst everyone else is fighting gale force winds, horizontal rain, snow and ice wishing they too were indoors at home.

There’s loads of haulage mobs within 15-20 mins drive of you,as well as the ones already mentioned there’s James Baxter in Ellistown,Fred Sherwood in Shepshed,Central in Coalville,DHL in Bardon,Emersons in Ellistown,EM Transport in Coalville,CF Mee in Ellistown,Tony Starmer in Loughborough,Adey Steel in Loughborough,Coleman in Burton,Progress in Markfield,Woods in Markfield,Jayplas in Loughborough,Bullivants in Burton,Leicester Heavy Haulage in Ellistown,MTS in Bardon,AB Produce in Measham,I could keep going but you get the idea.Get on Google, make a list then get out there and get knocking on doors!
