Not driven a manual for 8 years lol

I haven’t driven a manual truck for over 8 years lol …got a assesmant in a couple of weeks in a daf xf ssc with a 3 over 3 box …any one fancy a tune been played lol just give me a request lol

i didnt know they did a 3/3 manual, all the Dafs ive had, (from a brand new R reg to an 06 reg, all manual) were 16 speed 4/4’s.
You learn something new every day!

yep DAF or ZF now do a 3 over 3

Maybe im going to sound right stupid here

Then why have the ‘‘over’’ is it because of that split button that nobody uses? Why no just have a straight 6 like their rigeds?

Ive no driven a manual in years either but was given a axor paddle gear box and it all came back. It will still be in there stvme2519 maybe gathering dust in the back of your brain but it will still be there :grimacing:

I hadn’t driven a manual since the day I passed my test, then I started workin for tesco and they’ve got a few manuals on the road, crunched a few gears the 1st day I was out in one, don’t actually mind driving a manual now, good to keep refreshed

got 13plate daf and thats 16speed so seams very strange them now changing to a 3

A straight 6 speed box would be massive and heavy due to the size of the gears and the amount ie 6 straight gears . the 3 over 3 has only 4 gears 1st 2nd 3rd and a Range Change …I always find it best to compare it to a bicycle …The gears on the rear wheel are the your 1 , 2 , 3 on the truck gearbox …The Range Change is the 2 gears on the pedals Hi & Lo ,.So instead of having 10 gears on you bikes rear wheel, which would involve spreading the rear forks to fit it in and the extra weight ,they do 5 ,an 2 at the pedals…Also on the truck if it has a splitter which is another gear you then have a 12 speed which i think all DAF’s are …Been working on DAF for 17 years repairing gearboxes and have never paid attention to the new box though in my defence i have only had 1 of them fail

psv8 you can still have a 16 speed if you wish ,the 12 speed is a customer option ,i think with the power ratings the ratio spread on a 12 speed is acceptable and has a fuel saving …

I haven’t driven a DAF 3 over 3 either, why would they ponce about with one the 16 speed is a terrific gearbox.

Have driven Scania and Volvos 3/3 and i wouldn’t give you a thankyou for either.

the 16 speed box is also a better box to repair way easier

The 16 speed zf is a beautiful gearbox, I had a driving assessment in an 04 reg today which was a bag off ■■■■ but once running the gear changes were excellent.

i know exactly what you’re saying, but…   just incase anyone is interested, any decent mountain bike will have 10 gears at the back with either 1, 2 or 3 up front, but recently a 1 x 11 setup has come out
