The problem is more the villagers who seem to want to have things like they were in the 1700s where the only time you saw someone from outside the village was once a month when the Sheriff came to collect the taxes.

They complain if 30-40 ramblers turned up, and had a pint at the local boozer… :unamused:

Would you like a bunch of strange lycra clad (people) in your village all trying to be the ownly gay in the village

I think if you lived there, you’d find it a huge problem. The whole area is full of cyclists at the weekends, ones, twos, small groups. As you go through Budworth to the road at the end, that’s where the kennels I use is located. Obviously only go there occasionally, but last year had from the Budworth junction to the A556 which must be around, absolutely solid with cyclists. And there were more waiting to cross over the 556.

I’ve been using those kennels for over 20 years and it used to be just a few cyclists which is fine, but now it’s difficult to just plain drive round that area.

It’s old fashioned showing of consideration. Many cyclists are considerate, but a fair proportion are not. The swearing, aggressive attitude to road users aside, it’s not uncommon to see large cycling groups or racing “pelatons” showing inconsideration by behaving as if the road was solely built for their own racing pleasure. A morphing, organic obstacle a few hundred feet long that refuses to give way is an unnecessary selfish risk for other road users.

Morecambe sea front, it has all been redeveloped and makes for a lovely walk on a nice day…
the downside is that the walkway is shared with cyclists who seem to think they are on’t tour de lancashire…
you don’t hear them flying up behind you and they don’t give you a little tinkle on their bell…
you would only have to step to one side and they would hit you…
complete selfish R.soles

couple of years ago some sort of bike event in the New Forest had to be cancelled as some of the locals threw a few tacks about

bit of a difference between 30 or 40 well behaved ramblers who are normally the older generation and lycra louts who speed, swear, and urinate in the street, don’t you think.[although not all at once, that would be difficult]

I think that judging from the stench in most laybys and lorry parks, truck drivers having an al fresco whizz is far more of an issue than cyclists doing it…

A possible solution?

heres another version…both have their merits…
