My worst nightmare when driving through a busy area. Local news saying road is open again

i heard this on the travel news l, I was in Reading today. As a driver that does a lot of urban deliveries it does play on your mind. Sounds like the women was dragged underneath the truck.
It’s a bloody horrible junction…people just wander of the path, irrespective of the colour of lights or running out to to get to the bus stop opposite

Most of Reading seems like that. The place I was delivering to today you have to reverse into an alleyway off Broad Street in the centre of Town, as your backing in people will keep walking behind you. Before that you have to cross the pedestrian area where they decided to remove the traffic lights and proper crossing so people are just walking about everywhere.
Is that the alley that iirc, is really bloody tight?
I thought that Aldi deliveries were always at night?
Most of the loading docks are straight off the customer car park though, which can’t be safe during the daytime by comparison with “night only” deliveries. RIP.
It’s very sad indeed. Must have been awful for all involved.
Reminds me of the lad on here who mentioned only a few weeks back about a near miss he had with a kiddie running into the road.
Now, I’m not saying anyone was at fault in this incident, but I (and I’m sure we all regularly do) often see people aimlessly wandering into the road; or parents with push chairs absent mindedly putting the buggy in the road before its safe to cross.
I’ve changed my walking route taking the kids to school too, as we live on the route to a landfill site. Tippers regularly squeezing along the town centre roads at speed, with kids of all ages cramming the pavements. Accident waiting to happen…

Not really for a rigid. Just super annoying. Had a tipper parked blocking the entrance today.

I don’t this that truck was for Aldi.

Not all at night, many stores have curfews which stop night time access, the joys of siteing stores close to residents, and most do indeed have docks through car parks designed for LHD vehicles. The stores do have “marshalls” (if you can get them interested) who can help keeping the customers out of the hazard area (if the customer wants to listen).
There’s all this ■■■■■■■■ regarding “banning diesel vehicles from London” at present, especially trucks.
FFS. Are they expecting local shops to be topped up by runners on motorbikes and pool cars then?
The public are the biggest bunch of idiots on the planet.
Residents who don’t want the local Aldi they wanted sooo much - getting re-stocked by a truck at night…
“I know! - Let’s risk having them run people over in the customer car park during the daytime instead!”
There’s “Not thought out at all”, there’s “Thought through on the back of an envelope”, and there’s "The public, incapable of joined-up thought full stop".
Lauren Heath, in her 20s, was killed after being hit by a lorry in Reading.
A young mother saved her baby’s life by shoving the little girl’s pram out of the way of an oncoming lorry a split second before being hit and killed instantly, her family have said.
Lauren Heath was pushing baby Millie in her pink pram when the pair were struck by the vehicle outside an Aldi store in Reading, Berkshire, on Wednesday.

RIP
Awful news,as seemingly tragic accident that will affect everyone involved for a lifetime.
Seemingly an accident that could have been avoided by pressing the button and waiting for the green man.
I recognise the outfit, It’s a company I have driven for. This vehicle certainly was NOT delivering to ALDI.
Absolutely terrible story. Condolences to all affected.
Unit has the Orange Haz board on the cab so certainly not for one of the supermarkets. From what I’ve heard at work tonight, it’s one of the w/hse lads relatives and one of the nights supervisors sister is a nurse at the RBH where they took the poor girls body…not going into details but praise to the driver…he immediately got out of the cab and covered the side up with some sheeting to stop the vultures with their phones…it would have been a truly horrific site but he did well. Apparently she ran in front of the truck to catch up with her friend.

I did notice that one of the articles stated that no one was arrested, this would add weight to that.
Whatever the facts, one thing is for certain, the driver will still carry that with him for the rest of his life, my sympathies to him.
My condolences go to the family and friends of the dead girl, all ways round, it is a tragedy.
