I drove this 290 F88 for a couple of months before starting with Archer’s.
Another 112 I had at Van Maanen, taken at the Relais des Sapins.
The road above is part of the Nantua viaduct.
We used to stop here to fill up with diesel and have a meal, though I stopped there a few month’s ago and the Shell station is now closed.
Did you ever work with a guy called John McClung at Archers, back in the 80’s, before he went to Wally Scrivener?
If I remember rightly he also did a spell for Astrans, along with a character called Rocket Ron.
JONBOY@RH:
excellent pictures keith. the edwards one… is it in fords at genk? lookd familiar
No Jonboy,it was taken at Saint-Gobain Sekurit in Wurselen where we load front and rear screens for the X-type Jag.
Those are empty stillages on the trailer.

Don’t recall any of those names,Fred had quite a turnover of drivers at that time.In fact after six months of working for him I was the second longest serving driver there!
Names I do remember are Mick Philips (now deceased),Olly Dickens (last time I saw him he was on for DFDS Harwich),Mick Chinnock,Mick Gain and a guy from London called Ted.
I remember Mick Chinnock had quite a lot of ME experience,in fact he went missing in Saudi for a few months and Fred couldn’t figure out what had happened to him. Then one day he turns up at the yard in Ipswich with a load he’d picked up somewhere along the way.
Turned out he’d been doing internals in Saudi, made himself some money and brought the truck back and we never saw him again.
Mick Gain I remember used to come back from Saudi or Iran or wherever and the first thing he’d do when he got in the yard was wash the truck.Nice guy.
Yeah, same TCS.It was originally owned by a German guy by the name of Willy Auster,he had the 88 and a DAF2800 which my brother drove at the time.
Used to be based in Anzani House just outside dock gate 2.Just after I left he bought an F10 to replace theF88 and then sold out to RD.
The trailer in the pic was run by another German guy in Felixstowe,August Hinrichs, under the name of LMS Transport. He went onto run Schallenberg and then moved to Brinor.
I only met Mick Chinnock a few times, but he was very well known,I used to get blokes asking me from Warsaw to Athens “Where’s Chinny?”
No it’s not Stuart,it’s Keith.
Wiily Auster’s son used to drive the DAF before my brother, but can’t remember what his name was (no,not my brother’s name.I know he’s Michael)
We used to do the tank work for VTG,Volker’s second name was Kape, strange guy!
The guy that started after my brother and I left drove the F10 and when TCS was sold to RD he went to work for Ancliff’s where I think he stayed until Ancliff finished.
Did you used to wash out at Ancliff’s or at the Tank Farm?I know a lot of the old Ancliff drivers, mechanics and the boys in the tank wash like Pat and young David. Also Colin and Paul Beckett in the workshop (Paul used to be known as Kojak).
Do you know John (Jaydee) who was on tanks for a long while, used to drive for H&P Freightways.
Another old mate of mine was on for another tank firm in Felixstowe,Martin (Raspberry Ripple) Fitzgerald, but can’t remember the name od the firm.Had White & red FL10’s.
I agree about Volker, We spent a few afternoons in the Routemaster. I did clean at Ancliffs and H&P, depended on the customer and product.
John JD who I knew down there is at Nico Nijman now. The other JD was John Dobson who had a 3 or 4 trucks on H&P in Hull.
I think the lad Im thinking of must have been at TCS after Keith. He drove the 2800 and Michael was on the F10. I had just got an F10 and we use to get weekended at Fawley quite often, We both liked a drink
My name is Keith and my brother is Michael.
So who Stuart is I’ve no idea.
Bit like ‘I’m Brian and so is my wife’
Monty Pythons Life of Brian,my fave film.
If you ever bump in to Jaydee, tell him Keith Williams say’s hello. If he say’s ‘Who?’ then slap him and say the Keith that used to drive for Van Maanen.
He’ll get the message!
