so what your saying is that the irish flag is only an ira flag to loyalist bigots?
everyone should be proud of THEIR COUNTRIES FLAG! I’m proud of my St. Georges cross, as for the Union Jack I’m not bothered either way as i didn’t ram it down people’s throats " when the empire ruled the world! " as I am not 400 years old yet as for the red hand of Ulster flag rightly so the Protestants should be proud of their flag! Once bigotry comes into it and some person of religious persuasion writes/ daubs IRA, INLA OR WHATEVER, and the same for UVF, UFF OR UDR cough cough I meant UDA or the Black and Tans or SPG OR E4 of the RUC then the dinosaurs of yesterdecade can screw it for EVERYONE bigoted or not! it’s always a MINORITY who spoil it for the majority. no one mentioned bigotry or sectarianism as one side JUMPS to conclusions then the other follows! I remember being over there once the ceasefire first came about and the joy on peoples faces on both sides was a joy to see. But some people CAN NOT LEAVE IT BE!
Going on to Glasgow and out lying towns, I once me a " security guard ! " at coca cola in East kilbride! His accent from Belfast quoted me " you a bit lost our kid? " no brought my family over here to escape the BIGOTRY from back home! " I recognise you " I said " no I doubt it ! " and to that I said " yes, you are ex RUC from andersonstown cop shop! " he turned round and said " I’m taking my family back home, as it is worse here! "

Why do you call it derry when your in Eire?
id have thought that was self explanetary with eire being a catholic country with a predominately catholic population. they still spell it in english and in irish on their road signs ffs( bless their little timewarp hearts)…sainsburys londonderry store is only ever referred to as strand road…never londonderry…marks and sparks,is only ever referred to as foyleside store, never the londonderry store…i cant remember what tesco called the one on the foyleside but its never referred to as the londonderry store, hence in fear of offending some braindead bigot…in eire because they used call it correctly derry, then they still refer to it as that, albeit incorrectly, but its not likely they are ever going to correctly call it londonderry, and with general resentment to n.i and england, its not likely anyone is going to change their mind…personally i just think they are all sad pathetic mindset people, hence the land that time forgot.
I’ve a friend who’s from just north of the line south of Newry. We were on a work course staying in a hotel one weekend (not operating any machinery for a few days) so we had a good few bevvys. Turned into one of those yacking sessions that went on all night and we were disturbed at the bar by the cleaners. Basically him trying to explain that he doesn’t feel ill will towards me personally but he doesn’t like the English at all or anything British. It was one of those merry go round discussions. He couldn’t explain it using any common sense, just had been bought up that way. Anything he bought up to ratify his dislike relied on history. History he wasn’t really directly involved in or around to know. And bloody old history going back to Oliver Cromwell!!!
I pointed out on that basis I should hate Germans, but I don’t. The discussion went round and round with tenuous reasons, yet we’re mates. He admitted he struggled with it. It’s not like this guy even had a valid living reason. He was just bought up like it yet he was intelligent and worked in an industry where you’re trained in harmonious relations with people. Very bizarre. Not the only time I’ve encountered this in otherwise rational people hence my doubts.
I have to say it’s a load of ■■■■■■■■ really, there is a big lump of land just off the coast of Britain, it’s a different country and yet the top 6 counties are British and the rest of it is Irish, it’s Ireland, just because the politicians and a few lines drawn on a map say otherwise doesn’t change a thing.
Everyone goes over the cam when the Muslims want to have Sharia Law in their ghettos, but it’s alright for protestant rule in Catholic Ireland?

I think the word we’re looking for is hypocrisy…
Bit like the Falklands then eh?
Exactly like the Falklands! I’m sure we’d all be pretty ■■■■■■ off if Argentina claimed the Isle of Wight as its territory!

Yeah once upon a time but I couldn’t care less if Ireland had the North. Most of my Brit mates say the same. Have it! Id rather they did if it helped progress but it won’t, I bet the UK government have been tempted to give it back as its been a liability on security. The problem is a hell of a lot of citizens there would view that as being kicked out of the UK as they are British. If the UK gave up, civil unrest again, damned if you do and damned if you don’t. No use harping on about partition of Ireland, battle of of Boyne bla bla. What’s to be done now is all that matters. The dissolution is an uneasy compromise to do the best to appease both sides.
id think that northern ireland was just an irritating boil on the backside of britain that it has to scratch now and again.
though if northern ireland is meant to be ireland(a seperate adjoining foriegn country) then how come germany france etc arnt just russia…small country on a land mass adjoining a larger one?..itl never change.who cares except for the ones that do care, and they generally just make laughing stocks of themselfs year in and year out…its like having your own version of jeremy kyle on the street here…

Nice attitude.

I wonder why. It’s the original name before it was changed after the plantation etc (as i’m sure you probably know).
As I’ve said before, I’ve been to england enough times to know I’m not British. You are a very different type of people over there and have a very different way of doing things. A people and an ideology/way of thinking that I can not personally relate to. Religion does not come into it for me.
To be honest I think there will always be some tensions so long as there is a border on such a small Island. I suppose it’s one of the last remaining outposts of ‘the empire’.
