Hi Barry, not sure…No Nail Box, forgot about them! They had some tidy trucks,
Paul Perks used to have a yard in Bretton, next to Ray Crofts for some time, I think he had the marathon new? I know he had a Sed Atkin400 before that, with a Rolls 265 he upgraded to a 290. GB

Kinnersley turn below Eardisley.A4111/A4112 junction I think.
Cheers Dave.

Racking my brains to think where Springfields were, I’m sure they were in Ellesmere Port somewhere, Barry, but stand to be corrected. I’m sure an old mate of mine drove for them for a while, but again probably wrong.

Springfields were from Broxton on the a41 between Chester and Whitchurch only a small fleet of 2 or 3 wagons
mention has been made on another thread of Lindfields a very smart fleet from Moreton near Hoylake mostly Volvos . thank you Trevor

Haha, of course! And just to prove my memory is rubbish, it was actually Lindfields that my mate drove for as he lived near Moreton somewhere. I take is Stan Hourd’s have long gone now by the way? They had a smart fleet of DAFs if I remember correctly.

hi Trevor , Lindfields regularly backloaded from the Bryngwyn works at Gorseinon as did several Shotton hauliers .
Very smart fleet this as already mentioned their drivers also . regards keith

I know Ellesmere Port is not North Wales but not far off,so anybody know if O B Transport is still going, ran tankers out of Stanlow and Associated Octel, same time as Catchpoles.

Chris

Hi Chris ,WEB, NO O B s went a long time ago there yard in the port is a super market now ,another big and great firm gone ,they must have seen the light the way haulage was going ,hope that helps you Chris ,Cheers Barry

Thanks Barry. Their place was on the r/h side going out of E Port towards Chester, can’t recall the name of the area. I had a bad air leak on a Scania 82 when delivering overnight to Littlewoods in the Port and they came out and fixed it about 2 in the morning as they had a night shift on,great lads.
Was it called Whitby ?

Chris.

That is Whitby, it’s a Morrison’s supermarket now as Barry said.
OB stood for Offley Bros I think and they had a Rover garage where Morrison’s is. I’m pretty sure the truck concerns were concentrated on Bridges Road and before that I think they had a garage at the side of the M53, quite close to where Tankfreight used to be. The garage was quite big and very busy, but I might be getting it confused with another company. That garage sadly got a bad rep when one or two of their staff were caught on the fiddle and I think it caused them a lot of grief and a bad name. They also did parts and supplied other haulage companies, if someone with a better memory or local knowledge of the Port is about they’ll probably correct me!

offley brothers have long finished ,best remembered for taking octel down to the refineries in west wales ,it was nasty stuff the tanks were in cages should thier be a roll over
hello keith yes the Bryngwyn was by gwynn bowens yard a lot of shotton hauliers loaded from here as did Trevor morrris from Oswestry does any one are Sj nMorris from the same area still going thank you Trevor

Thanks for the OB Transport info lads,I remember them loading those tanks in protected cages, out of Octel at E.Port and also Lostock Gralam,it was anti-knock compound for petrol I think.
I didn’t do a lot of work into North Wales - Shotton was a regular place for crude benzole out of the by-products plant- but apart from there the only other drops I did with a tanker in the 70s were Bernard Wardle at Caernafon and Ferodo near Bangor. One other place I went was in Bethesda,on the A5,it was a small industrial unit on the r/h side going east, over a narrow bridge. They made paint, special paint for cars IIRC,and took 500 galls of Toluene about three times a year, but their name escapes me,anybody remember it ? There was a disused slate quarry at the back, looked about a thousand feet high and one of the locals who worked at the little factory said “It was all chucked up by 'and you know”.
I once decided to go back empty to Sheffield via the Llanberis Pass,It would be about 1970,I had an AEC MK3 8-legger tanker,a nice scenic run which was made even more interesting when meeting coaches coming t’other way.
