Hi tastrucker, not sure about a link between Enston/Hannaby, I do remember Hannaby had a few motors, grey MANs, which must of been based in Wrexham at the fire brick works in Abenbury just off the A525 heading out from the town. No Ive never worked for Thomas Bros, kindly had the pics off the driver in them, Richie Owen Jones a friend of my old mans.

Hi nianiamh yes hannabys were grey MANS . they had a driver at minera who parked up by the bakery . he later drove another MAN for J E Jones from Llandegla thank you trevor

Hi Boys
There was a driver that worked for Hannabys that lived next door to us at Tybroughton His name was Ken Stevenson anyone remember him ? The last I heard he moved to Whittington into the old folks bungalows when they flattened the brick works.

Regards Keith

I have a photo of one of our tankers parked up at Birch services, there is a Guy big J tanker parked just in view behind it on the nearside.

I can’t for the life in me remember who’s lorry it was, it was a blue grey colour and I think it was from the Wrexham area.
I uses to see the same firms lorries about a lot, one of my drops was at Monsanto Acrefair and there was a haulage yard across from the entrance, could it be from there, if not who’s firm was at Acrefair?

Both me and Chris Webb would like to know who it belonged to and Chris suggested I posted it here.

I think the firm that was at Acrefair was S E Jones, the colours of the Guy would suggest J H Willis from Gresford nr. Wrexham ?

HI ,Tankerman ,S E JONES were the ones outside Monsanto ,there old colours were dark green ,then changed to a light & dark green ,there was a owner driver had an 8 wheeler ego cab AEC or Leyland a two tone blue ,used to park it by his house on the old Wrexham to Ruabon road ,worked out of Monsanto,Then there was J W Whillis of Gresford ,run a big fleet of tankers on Milk ,hope that might help you Russel, your Barry

Hi I think the 8 wheeler you mention would of been owned by Harry Bradford, always kept the motor spotless,
his house was at the entrance to Esless farm on the Wrexham to Ruabon road, where my old man worked from before he started with BRS in 76.

My Dad`s Commer from Esless Farm, usually had a livestock box on, this boat was just a one off job.

And J H Willis motor with its driver Cliff

Thanks for the reply chaps, yes I do remember now the S.E. Jones lorries across from Monsanto but still can’t recall the firm with the Guy in my photo.
The name J.H.Whillis doesn’t ring a bell with me, I am sure it wasn’t that.
I have had a close look at the original photo with a magnifying glass but the angle is to sharp to read it.

Hope fully somebody with recognize it and put our minds at rest.

That Monsanto job was good one for me, I would load ex BP Saltend and park up on a fiddle at Bury near home. Tip Monsanto at Ruabon and the operator would let me steam out for nothing, the firm paid us £25 if we didn’t have to go to a proper cleanout company. Then I would reload caustic from Runcorn and park at Bury again before running back to Hull the day after. Two trips a week kept me happy.

That Guy looks so familiar, but I don’t think it’s a Willis from Gresford motor. I remember S E Jones from Acefair as well but i think the name on the cab went straight across, not curved like in the photo.Bloody hell,I can’t remember what I had for dinner but I can recall how Jones’ signwriting was done.

HI ,Chris Webb ,S E,Jones did have dark green GUY s on Monsanto it could be one of theres yours Barry ,

Hey…spent many happy hour in the cab of that Commer…AUN274L and it’s predecessor NUN355G and JED???F Can’t believe seeing AUN again!..I must have missed the trip to pick the Boat Up!..
As you said it usually had a Crumps cattle box on the back, if the box was off it was loaded with Wrexham Larger or Millns seeds!..Sounded great at full tilt…Eddy Tricket at he wheel!

My Dad, Henry Bradford was the owner driver…the end of Eslless Lane. Lynwood 2 Wrexham Road…Started his driving life with Langleys just outside Church Stretton…
His last lorry, a C series ERF (265 Rolls) 8x4 9PAX345Y) went into Kronopan complete with it’s stainless steel tank…his AEC 760 8x4 (VXC74N) that went on he timber after we had finished with it…would be great if it was still about!.■■ the one before that a Albion Reiver 6x4 (OUN51G) went to Heywards in Ruabon!..
He carried for Monsanto for years…MBT, Castic Soda, Sulphuric Acid etc…he went everywhere at 48mph!..
Have a selection of photos…will post them soon…

Edward Derbyshire, Wixhall was another tanker company pulling out of Monsanto…

Wow great post, you & me both, many happy days out in the Commer, I think full tilt was the only way my Dad knew how to drive
The boat load was done when my Dad was off work after he`d lost the top off his finger loading in Huddersfield.

Remember doing lots of loads out of Millns in Chester,
my Dad was so kind to my Mum back in them days that he bought her a VW van so she could do farm deliveries around Yorkshire with it all handball back then, what a lucky girl she was

Looking forward to seeing the pics of your Dad`s motors as I am sure my old man will be too

Cheers Neal.
