North Devon

Considering moving there pretty soon, but would like some idea of places to try and get work - companies, agencies I don’t mind. I know its quiet where I am in Sussex so would be pretty certain its a similar situation in Devon, but an opportunity has come up to move there (only transport costs to pay!) and its somewhere that Ive wanted to live for as long as I can remember.
I’ve got a class 2 licence and a counterbalance forklift ticket, and would be living in Bideford.

Sunnydevon works for a foodservice company in North Devon, they may be looking for drivers as the Emmet season gears up

Evans in Bideford have a few Class 2 trucks on the pallet network job, (but it’s mainly class 1 iirc) They do pallets ( can’t remember which network) , Blocks, Tippers and general , although I’ve heard the tipper job is dead mans shoes !

there’s the usual builders merchants, animal feed companies etc in the area , Class 2 and flt would come in handy there

there’s probably more that I’ve forgotten

the local paper is thisisnorthdevon.co.uk/peopl … ofile.html

Thanks Denis, thats a big help.

North Devon is cracking but be prepared for it to be pretty quiet on the job front.

Im prepared for that. If i get a driving job, thats a bonus. otherwise I can fall back on years of retail experience to give me more chances (even though I don’t enjoy it, i’ll do it to fill a gap until something truck shaped comes along)

could try william hocking, or gregory’s out of norbord at south molton, got ways at south molton as well all tipper work. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

I could be wrong don’t think Bill Hockin has any Class 2 trucks, not sure about Gregorys at South Molton either

I am planning on getting Class1 or hiab later in the year, depends on where I will be. Either option looks to be a good one, I’d like to do both this year if I can.

Samworth Bros is in that area I think.

Not really.

i would say gregorys but phone collumpton and tell them where you are (will be) they might even give you a bit of casual work. many of thier full timers started that way, worth a phone call at least.

there’s a few more if you get your class one , as weewulliewinkie said there’s Gregorys gdl.uk.com/

there’s also Torridge mdtransport.co.uk/)

Agree with all the above, great place to live but work is pretty thin, agency is probably your best bet to start with.
Having said that qaulity drivers are in short supply so if you get in somewhere and you know your stuff you should be ok.
We are ok for this season at the moment but who knows, as DennisF says we are in foodservice, ok if you like plenty of handball into kitchens and the like but it’s not everyones cup o tea.
If I hear of anything I’ll let you know.

Sunny

Strangely enough I had a call from a mate who lives in Devon today . He is class one and currently driving a van to get by . He’s been down there a good few years and is now on the verge of moving back to Rugby solely to get work . He’s giving up a great flat in sunny Devon to move into a room up here in his brothers house . Sorry to be negative but it does shed some light on the situation in that area .

I’m in Devon…Used to live in Rugby. I’m desperate, but not THAT desperate! Had a few days agency this week. Few more to end the week. But that’s about it.
