Just watch out for the crazy north devon bus drivers who have been let loose with a coach, trying to speed up there at 62. Keep your mirrors in, there’s some bad drivers from up there.
Now come on, be fair, how well could you drive if you had six fingers on each hand and one eye in the middle of your forehead?

Yes i agree, was just asking for a bit of patience for those of us who have to stick it.
That road is wide enough to be safe to do 50
There’s lots of laybys too
They should have made it a dual carriageway when they built it though !
Totally agree denis. Bloody road is dangerous ! Drivers get frustrated behind lorries doing 40mph ( correctly ) and attempt stupid overtaking manoeuvres which lead to some of the dreadful accidents the road has seen.
that is down to those who are speeding, not the one driving correctly
Not strictly true. The ones doing the crazy overtakes tend to be cars subject to a 33% higher speed limit.
so, because a car’s speed limit is higher on a certain road, than a trucks speed limit on the same road, if the aforementioned car driver decides to do a stupid overtaking manouver, why and how is that the fault of the driver that is abiding by the law?
No, that’s what you said. You stated “that is down to those who are speeding”, which to me suggests that you believe the accidents are caused by people speeding. I merely pointed out that a car could be overtaking a truck (travelling at his legal limit) and still be within his own speed limit. Ergo he’s not guilty of speeding, merely of being a nob attempting a suicidal overtake.

Careful Harry. We six fingered people are popular with the ladies. And it makes a mighty big fist. But obviously you mean people from ilfracombe who are in fact all scousers anyhow.
I have the misfortune of using this road thankfully during the hours of darkness and I have been followed by old bill in the small hours for many miles, loads of lay bys no excuse for not letting others pass.
Just show your intention and I will do my best to oblige, I will be driving a white German lorry with some road safety messages on the back of the trailer.
So what your saying is the law abiding driver should pull in every couple of miles to let the everywhere on the limiter bulk tipper 100mph downhill and 10mph up the next hill boys through?
I may be mistaken but unless you got blue flashing lights on the roof and a siren then your journey is no more important than mine

But not everyone wants to have 45min waiting to rejoin the traffic
In addition to lots of lay bys there are plenty of opportunities to overtake, obviously traffic conditions are different during the day It’s down to the individual and the conditions at the time, I will help others on their way if I can and If I can’t hard luck, my job my licence.
If you don’t like the road then don’t use it. I happened to be going from near Crediton to S. Molton the other day and found a very nice fairly wide quiet road - part of the old main road I believe. On another occasion a camera van was parked near one of dips, hence the artic in front doing 39MPH so I overtook in my mighty 220BHP 7.5 tonner, seeing how I could see there was nothing coming for a mile - no problems and no points - I didn’t have to go above 50. I think the earlier 100MPH is exaggerating but 110KPH is possible, I believe.
I used to use the the Link Road every day. If I’m doing 40 you can be ■■■■■■ if I’m pulling off to let you by. There are plenty of safe places for you to overtake if you want, but if can’t keep the juice going on the climbs then don’t be surprised if I come back passed you. That said, its the ones (mostly lorries) that would overtake you on the solid double whites down to the Tiverton island
that used to boil my pee.
Incidently, most of the traffic cops I have spoken to, though they make it clear not to quote them on it, will not bother you if you are travelling at 50 so long as you are doing it safely. Over that and your fair game, and a scamera van will do you whatever speed you are doing if its over 40.

Sounds very similiar to the A9, coaches and trucks overtaking on double whites and often using the hatched areas protecting right turning traffic, granted cars can be pretty bad at times and on the dark sections it’s not easy to spot if a layby is empty or not before being right on top of most of them. Tailgating artics are a common sight too, seems they think the closer they run the more likely someone is to pull in, two firms in particular seem to employ drivers with this “skill”.

oi oi steady on
As it happens I was on the link the other night and followed several local boys for some miles, first two were on the limiter continuous then a third was in a big tipper who I only passed on one of the long uphills because he slowed to about 65
That said I never kept to the limit when I was driving.
