At first glance they appear nonsensical although I’m sure that someone with an ology in traffic management could possibly explain. I can think of three off the top of my head; the M6 between Stafford and Stoke, 60mph limit northbound but a 50 limit southbound, why? Next is the recently completed M62 improvement between the M6 and Manchester, 50 mph limit both ways despite all works being finished and four lanes each way, why?
Lastly the A63 into and out of Hull, 40mph limit for mile upon mile for no apparent reason. Perhaps someone can shed any light on that one.
It’s nothing new there are numerous examples of NSL being reduced to any arbitrary figure from 40 mph.Including the anarchy of ‘smart motorways’.
The only explanation is an agenda of deliberately criminalising drivers and revenue raising in fines and reducing the attraction of road use to get anywhere.Sick of this control freak society already and it’s not even started yet.
A63 Hull…replacing crash barriers over 7 months through the night, so lots of stages without crash protection here and there as they do it. Also some stretches run alongside the rail lines where barriers are removed. Looks pointless during the day but really is necessary in all honesty

I thought that the Hull one may have a good reason tbh, it’s always bloody dark when I pass there in my defence. Thanks for that.

Its often similar on motorways too.
Have a look at M6 southbound and I’m sure there’s still bits with cones instead of the knee high continuous temporary barrier. I vaguely recall (but may be imagining) that I rule of increased motorway roadworks limits requires the presence of a continuous barrier.

Any others?
It was 40 both ways during the day, the other day looked exactly the same as when it was 50?

They are still finishing off the M62 jn 10-12, either way or both ways are usually shut overnight.

Unfortunately many people are badgering for the 40mph rule to remain once the central barrier works are finished. I read it on Brough Social Media.
At which point what are the upsides of using motorways.
Just loads of potential aggro of being caught for hours between junctions and often a longer distance between points. For the privilege of getting nicked for speeding.
guy who does some of our cpc (ex traffic cop, crash scene investigator and vosa op when as he said, they were honest ) said they leave a lot of signage and speed limits etc in place after works are completed as it is so much red tape to get it removed before the original deadline. For example, they put it all in on a 3 month traffic order, work is completed in 2 months, they have allowed a month extra in signage for delays etc. They have to then go through so much paperwork and bureaucracy to remove it early that they don’t bother, they simply let the stuff stay in place to the original date set.
It’s not just the fixed limits or roadworks’ limits that do my head in. It’s the “50mph - Report Of Pedestrians” that are appearing left, right and centre. Never a pedestrian in sight. Hey, road managing idiots if you want to slow traffic, just do it, but making crap up is really annoying!!
Oh, and while we’re about it. What is the point of the “60 mph - Speed limited for air pollution” crap I keep seeing on the M6 at Birmingham?? If you want to improve air quality stop cutting down roadside vegetation and trees to build empty distribution centres and houses!!

Oh no, the noted expert on trailer design has mastered the power to alter time and space
