I am a class one driver who does not hold an adr qualification, last night the company i work for sent me out to my regular drop carrying (unknown to me) 367kg of transport cat 2 freight. On arriving at the drop one of the warehouse supervisors asked why i was not showing orange plates as i was carrying hazardous. My company had put all the haz docs in with the rest of the paperwork and not told me i was carrying it.
A similar situation occured about 3 weeks ago where 2 different catorgories of a low weight were put on my trailer, which when combined fell under adr. I brought this to the attention of my supervisor who said it was a mistake and that the hazardous manifest had been overlooked, i am prepared to belive this once but not twice, i feel the company are trying to save money by loading the freight on me without my knowledge putting me in a dodgy situation with the nice people from vosa if was to be stopped.
Another driver at the company feels i should blow the whistle on the company and report them. however i am not sure if i would be in trouble if i did that or if there are any alternatives icould try.
Just looking for abit of advice really,as i am confused and angry they have put me in this postion.
It’s not always necessary to have an ADR cert’ to carry hazardous goods.
There is a chart available somewhere, which shows when you need an ADR Cert’ and when you don’t. I can’t remember all the details off the top of my head but basically, if you are carrying under a certain weight (the weight varies depending on the class) you don’t need it.
If you are carrying over that weight, but the stuff is in small containers (again, the max size of container varies according to class), you don’t need it either.
I’ll go and see if I can find that chart on-line. If so, I’ll post the link for you. Hopefully someone will be able to give you more specific details shortly. I last did ADR several years ago, so I’m not up to speed on the latest updates.
it might have com e under the limited quantities regs it depend on what it was and how it was packaged ie 50 gallon drum needs and adr 24 ton of bleach packed in 750ml bottles does need and adr or orange plates though it is a hazardous load
The 333 rule for Transport Cat 2 does not give a complete exemption from ADR, it exempts you certain parts of it. Limited quantity exemptions can apply, but there are no hard and fast blanket rules, they are listed in section 3.4.6 of the ADR.
