No valid DCPC card, is this scenario possible

Ok, so retirement looms in six months for me and as I have stated before I’m not keeping my licence on after it expires in 2020. However, my DCPC runs out in september 2019 and as I have not kept up with any training that will go too. BUT, the firm wants to know if I can sit in with a provisional driver for his C then C+E without a DCPC card for a bit of road experience until my licence runs out ?

Will you be getting paid to be a supervisor
Will the vehicle be on a commercial run

When I was an IAM LGV observer I would go out as a volunteer with a full LGV licence holder without me needing a DCPC but that is not the same as you propose

Yes to both, so I guess that rules out me being able to undertake the tasks . It was just something that was thrown at me the other day when discussing my retirement. Many thanks ROG.

I work with a chap in his late 70’s who is in a similar scenario
he is under the impression (from the training firm that he did his last DPC with) that he can do 1 day of training & that will cover him for 1 extra yr?

I’m afraid he’s wrong, he needs to have completed 35 hours periodic training to continue driving after his current DQC expires.

If we’re out of the EU by then, then I guess the authorites will be a bit lax on you whiling out your final months of C+E licence.

If we don’t leave, - then you’ll no doubt be hung, drawn, and quartered for even bringing this question forward for consideration on the day! :stuck_out_tongue:

The blue card is to be a PAID Driver - not “a driving licence”.

You cannot hold down a job as a professional driver without a blue card.

You CAN drive trucks with just the C+E licence, eg. you hire one to move house with, or help your boss out whilst working for him in some other capacity that doesn’t have “driver” in the job description.

What does that have to do with being able to drive for a further year after doing 1 training course?

Sent from my mobile.

If it’s a driving lesson, looks like you’re exempt

gov.uk/guidance/driver-cpc- … ving-tests

Example 1: learning to drive a coach
The driver is taking driving lessons in a coach, to prepare for a category D licence acquisition test.

They don’t need Driver CPC.

Example 2: lorry driving instructor
A lorry driving instructor sometimes drives a lorry to show a particular technique to their trainees.

They don’t need Driver CPC, as this is happening during a driving lesson.

That would be ok if the lorry was not doing any commercial work during the journey
