Travelling along a narrow Fen road today I noticed the remains of a super single, nothing unusual there I thought.
A bit further on I’m following a unit & loaded tri axle trailer, probably doing nearly 47-48 mph, nothing unusual there I thought.
Followed him for about 5 miles, then he turned off onto the main A17. As he turned off I noticed his n/s middle trailer tyre was missing & the nice alloy wheel was pretty much ground down…
There is very little you can say which will shock me now. The scary thing is that I have only been doing this for a year!
Imagine that convo when you get back to the depot thought!
A bit like on IRT when Lisa lost a wheel off the dolly.
there is a clip on you tube showing a trailer with no tyres and rims like thruppinie bits but I can’t find it

As far as i can remember although i may be wrong she was aware of the problem as it occured was she not?
I would hazzard a guess that procedures for “limping home” are a little diffrent on the ice road i imagine I dont think the tyre fitter is on call
iraqis and afghans do it all the time will chain an axle up and take wheels off so they can use them as spares

As far as I can remember she was only aware of it after someone else told her about it

I can’t see how the middle wheel would even touch the ground with the other two tyres either side holding it up, no matter how much extra weight they were taking, just doesn’t seem possible.
Who’s to say that the driver saw or heard the tyre coming of the wheel ■■
Maybe day-dreaming & listening to the radio ■■ If the radio was too loud then he might not of heard go BOOM !!

If you have a blow-out on the centre axle, then the rim will touch the ground… The axle’s work independent of each other on most trailers…
Remind’s me of a time when I had a blow-out on the centre off-side wheel & I had no spare…
Rang the boss & he asked If I’d got enough Rachet-set’s/strap’s with me which of cause I had…
I ended up taking the wheel off the hub & strapping the hub up so It couldn’t touch the ground until I got to the nearest tyre fitting company…

No worries mate… Most people have that at some time or another, although most will deny It…
I think this is the video in question. I had it added to my favourites ages ago for some reason.
Good lad, that’s commitment to getting there on time!
