No turning back now

well i spent 4 days in my new job and have already handed my notice after a getting a phone call this morning from james nuttall offering my a tramping job
dispite enjoying my current job and working with a great set of lads bosses included ( no formality with them just straight talking people )
tramping is what i wanted to get back into pluss the extra cash will come in hand while the misses finishes uni and gets into her new job properly
i still felt bad for mucking my current boss about hey ho onwards i suppose
just wonering have any of you guys turned around in a job so quickly if so what were the reasons

Straight out of college I got a job with a large electrical retailer (Think indian food) on a “full time” basis. Week 1 = 8 hours, Week 2 = 11 Hours, Week 3 = 6 hours :unamused:

Walked out then as something else had come along.

I went to work at a volvo car dealership as a valeter, i lasted 3 days the bloke i had to work with was unbearable. :unamused:

just look after number 1 kiddo , i know how u feel but if its what you want then go for it !!!

I lasted 3 days at one job TM was a complete bell end he kept ringing me up to see where i was. In the end i chucked the phone out of the window (M42 jct 3 i think) went back to the yard and went home.

Lasted 2 days with a firm near Auchterarder couldnt run a brothel in a barracks. The forkie said they gave haulage industry a bad name and thats not an easy thing to do.

lasted one night as a security guard, got a phone call off the job centre telling me there was jobs going on the irish ferries interview that afternoon started the next day.

as long as you explain to your current boss your reasons and leave on good terms then youve nowt to worry about mate always try to leave on good terms though. unless its stobarts i couldnt give a ■■■■ when i left there…

Mate, sounds like you’ve done the right thing for yourself - as you should do.

Even on good terms though, I’m not sure they’d take you back as after 8 days it’s likely they feel a bit let down…once bitten and all that…

Still make you right though - you have to do what’s best for you not them…

did you go for your appeal clifton,or didnt you bother with having a job

I once turned up on firstday around 2002, got given a G reg vehicle to do a 15hour stint in. Started doing pre-vehicle checks, found loads of faults like broken headlight, horn don’t work, steering wheel loose, wheel nuts missing - you name it.

I asked politely what the procedure was for putting vehicles off the road…
Got told “That’s the vehicle - use it, or you’re banned from site!”

I told him why I still have a clean licence, and then walked. I didn’t get paid, and the agency kicked me off the books, 'cos TM was a personal mate of agency boss man. Plonker! :imp: :imp: I was about 35 mins into the duty when I walked. :open_mouth:

No VOSA to report them to back then alas… :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:
I understand the agency is still in business, but doing farm stuff only now. The TM I had the barney with must have gone, because the firm seems to have cleaned up its act a lot since I was there - Lots of shiny new motors running around kent rather than their old rubbish that looked like they’d bought it second-hand from a travelling fairground vendor!
I may get assigned there in the next few weeks indeed, so it’ll be interesting to see if there are any ‘elephants that never forget’ there!

Don’t spin the trailor round in the yard, shunt it cos spinning it is frowned on, and they used to want their pound of flesh so start as you mean to go on and you should be ok.

good luck

When i was 17 i got a job at a window manufacturers, money was toss and tried to mug me of in the first 10mins of being there so i promptly left. deliberating on way home if id done the right thing i bumped into a old friend, i told him my of morning events and he said his dad was looking for someone at his place.
I started for his dad and stayed 4 years and by my 18th birthday was pocketing £400 a week take home, triple what window firm was paying.
My advice always go with your instincts

Clifton, before you leave, give them a nudge that they’ve got my CV in there

Good luck at James Nuttall, think you’ve done right leaving on good terms, not many good things said about James Nuttall’s around here, BUT, I’ve delivered there 3 times (2 different yards if I remember correctly) and can’t remember any probs, so maybe just disgruntled ex-employees?
