whats psv
That’s what I was thinking
Something specific to NI perhaps?
psv is mot test for hgvs in northern ireland
so much for the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland
Thought PSV was ‘Passenger Service Vehicle’

Like the MOT test fee for a six axle artic, UK = £188, NI = £92.
I suppose in time there will be different fees for Wales and Scotland, no doubt lower than for England
I thought a “PCV” is a Pallet Control Voucher!
Next!

AFAIK the driver is not responsible for ensuring that the truck has a current MOT (or whatever). It’s the Operators problem, not his.

It’s only the British government who could have thought of the idea of getting rid of the PSV and calling it PCV so that they could use the PSV title for the Irish MOT.
According to Roadtransport.com’s article on HGV & MOT testing By Lucy Wood and Anton Balkitis:
The law is quite clear that responsibility for the roadworthiness of vehicles and trailers lies with the operator. This remains the case even when maintenance is contracted out to a third party and for leased or hired vehicles and trailers.
Reading this I’m assuming the driver is in the clear.
The PSV for buses went out at the same time as HGV for lorries .A bus driver needs a D licence similar to a C licence for lorries. When did lorries become trucks anyone know?

Probably when Britain realised that the 1950’s were over and we needed a more widely used term. This time, for once,America and Britain are’nt two nations divided by a common language. It may also have been wishful thinking that by calling an old British heap a truck it might go like a proper yank wagon.
