Google finally admit that the self driving car is likely to be 30 years away and will be released to markets where the roads are wide and open and the weather is nice and sunny.
I’d love to see one of those self driving cars try and tackle the A406 during rush hour.
Big question for me is,would I sit in and be driven by an automated car,the answer is definitely not, my destiny is my own, thank you very much, well as much as I can make it my own, Ta
Well the uk don’t have open wide roads and you can count your sunny days in a year with your fingers and toes.
That must be why they have all been tested in Nevada and California because of is climate. Bit of rain and snow and these things would throw a hissy fit.
Didn’t people also think we would be taking holidays on the moon by now.
We oneday will be living on Mars too
Cheers for the link Conor.
Don’t think many here took the threat of robots doing their job seriously, but will hopefully reassure any young uns who are worried about investing in their tickets.
however, Peter Hitchens touches on robots replacing humans and where this can go in his yesterdays column in the Mail on Sunday (no i don’t read that or any other paper but i do read Hitchens), and his article has provided me with a much needed kick up the arse, up till now if there’s a queue at the supermarket i will use the self service tills and i use the auto pumps at the filling station to avoid going in to pay, he makes good points as usual, what next?

I’m going back to avoiding automatic tellers too where possible
Google may well be right regarding cars but I think the commercial market is a different matter. Much tighter control and regulation to start with.

You make a good point. They can spend billions perfecting the driverless car, but if ultimately nobody fancies sitting in one & putting themselves 1 computer malfunction away from death, then it’ll never take off.
I’m with you, can’t envisage myself wanting to get in one.
Indeed, the same applies to robotised lorries, there will come a point when even the most techno luvvies here will say, yer know what i don’t need this crap no more and i’m not playing any more.

Weak. I once at 7 in a row.
And this is relatively reassuring. I want to change job, but it’s good to know I’ve got a meal ticket for life (actual words from the examiner after he passed my Class 1 test).
