No more honeymoon period for EV owners

The price of used BEVs at auction are on the rise & a lot are now fetching more than the cap price, I watch Jonathon portafield’s YT channel to keep up with prices on used EVs.

The price of traction pack batteries has almost halved in the last 12 months, with prices that legacy car manufacturers can now acquire for the princely sum of 54 euros per kilowatt-hour for LFP cell chemistry and 58 euros per kilowatt-hour for NMC cell chemistry.

If they still can’t make a cheaper BEV with those prices, then they deserve to go to the wall. The latest Chinese BEVs coming out of there are incredible & are leaving the laggards in the dust. Falling battery prices = more electric cars - electrive.com

No intention of doing away with my diesel 4x4, but when my daily driver C5 diesel estate, needs replacing I will be looking very closely at BEV or hybrid.
Being retired now, the C5 mileage has dropped a lot. I don’t often need more than a hatchback In truth when I was at work a BEV would likely have done the job very well anyway, but about 8 years ago when I got the C5, I was of a different mindset.

My attitudes are changing, but the LandCruiser is safe for the moment.

The holy grail of batteries is getting closer & much cheaper with CATL new Naxtra Sodium-ion battery. It has a lifespan of 10000 cycles, which means if you bought a car at eighteen years of age you’d still not reach 10000 cycles if you were still filling it up at aged 80.

“Naxtra sodium-ion battery would begin mass production in December 2025, with initial deployment in its Choco-swap electric vehicle models. The battery maintains 90% usable capacity at temperatures as low as -40°C and features an energy density of 175Wh/kg, comparable to lithium iron phosphate batteries. It supports peak charging rates of 5C, offers a 500km range, and has a lifespan exceeding 10,000 cycles & confirmed a warranty of ten years or 240,000 kilometres.

China has set new standards for battery traction packs which are to be officially implemented on July 1, 2026, It aims to eliminate fire risks in electric vehicles at the source by imposing strict safety requirements across multiple dimensions, including thermal diffusion, bottom impact, and fast-charging cycles.” CATL's Naxtra sodium-ion battery passes new national safety standards, ready for mass production

Hot on the heels of CATL’s new battery tech comes Mercedes with a lithium metal solid state battery that went 750 miles on a single charge without stopping from Stuttgart, Germany, to Malmö, Sweden in a Mercedes EQS BEV, and it still had some energy left to spare. petrol & diesel’s days are numbered at this rate with what Mercedes’ tech boss, Markus Schäfer, is calling the new EV battery tech a “game-changer” for electric vehicles. Mercedes is developing its solid-state batteries in collaboration with its Formula 1 supplier, Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains (HPP). LOL, I’m lovin’ this? Gone are the days of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche & the rest of the oil burners being the fastest kid on the block.

We’ve just had the Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi with their 1500HP SU 7 break records at the Nürburgring, even getting a corner named after it.

Now a new kid on the block ‘Dreame’ is poised to challenge the likes of the Bugatti Chiron has emerged from a domestic hoover manufacturer that makes 2000,000 RMP digital motors. Dreame the vacuum maker unveils renders for its "world's fastest" car, strikingly similar to Bugatti Chiron

Legacy auto should just pack it in before they get trounced by an electric toothbrush manufacturer lol.

Ey up! New battery tech is coming thick & fast, Tesla’s new Aluminium-ion Quantum battery that’s in development is like a proper game changer & from what I’ve read costs less than $2000. A battery pack that can last up to 4 million miles with high density.

Yet another British Gas Greenflex half price electricity event due to an excess of renewable energy, I’ll put the car on charge for a couple of hours then. What a pity big oil doesn’t do the same. :joy:

That will be the same British Gas that after nearly three and a half years still cannot read either of the smart meters on my property !!!

We had that problem with Octopus energy prior to moving to BG. every meter reading was wrong by a large margin, even with me sending them monthly pics of my gas/electric meters. We joined BG & they installed a new smart meter & everything has been fine.

I can’t complain about them, we have a cheap overnight EV tariff & they have five hours of half price electricity every Sunday between 11:00-16:00 & we get these GreenFlex events regular through the Summer months making it cheap as chips to charge at home on the 7kWh charger.

Yes We have done the pictures with B Gas. Had to increase my digital storage to cope with it all.

Been to the Ombudsman earlier this year and their intervention got me a promise of some action (engineer visit who said all was ok) and £150.00 credit. Also got my billing up to date.

Last month got a random e mail from B gas saying the complaint was still not resolved. Bills were due last week, received nothing so rang B Gas who said no readings on their system.

START ALL OVER AGAIN !!:grimacing: :grimacing:
