No more honeymoon period for EV owners

How long before Stellantis bites the dust? With Chinese automakers outselling Audi & Renault in their own backyard last month despite those EU tariffs, Stellantis are pausing production at six plants in Europe & putting workers on furlough due to weak demand & Trumpers tariffs, (read too expensive as Chinese BEVs rose 27%), the Chinese are already hovering to buy some of those marques, and to rub salt into legacy autos wounds the Chinese BEV plants across the EU haven’t even come online yet which will mean even cheaper tariff-free cars.

This has been brewing since the last shower were in government. There’s no way they’d let pass all the potential lucre from the elecky owners now.

I read yesterday that things are starting to look proper grim for legacy auto, VW have just announced that they’ve paused production at their BEV plants from weak demand (again read TOO EXPENSIVE) & Trumpers tariffs. Bosch have just cut 13000 workers jobs too. Sad times for the auto industry jobs.

I knew it was coming. The government could not wait

New data from Cinch says used EVs overtake used diesel cars on the used car market for the first time ever. In August 2025, EVs sold at a rate 43% faster than diesels and 29% faster than petrol cars on our website and app.

To show how much western legacy auto are cooked Geely just brought out the Geely Starshine 6 PHEV, It cost $11000 & has an interior quality as good as the VAG brands along with all the bells & whistles.

Chinese brands dominated the recent Turin auto show.

Dig that grill though.  Geely Galaxy Starshine 6 PHEV – C-segment size but with torsion beam, fr RM47k; Proton eMas sedan? | Agooka News

Are those dealership figures or across the board figures?

I would say it’s just Cinch figures but granted I haven’t researched the market as a whole. I wouldn’t touch Cinch with a ■■■■■■■ barge pole.

There are some cheap EV schemes going on in Europe, Italy’s scrappage scheme for cars over 10 years old will cost less than a high-end bicycle when traded in for a Chinese built Leapmotor & Renault’s Dacia spring. VW’s Zwickau & Hanover plants are paused, yet they’ve built a $5billion plant in Indonesia starting production in 2026, It’s come to the stage where VW can’t afford to build cars in its own country any more because of sky-high energy costs to keep the plants going & a high wage workforce. The giant auto supplier company ZF has just announced today that it’s cutting around a quarter of its workforce.

VW isn’t having a good time of late, they’re also in court in India, the Indian government slapped a $1.4 billion tax notice on Volkswagen for using a strategy to break down imports of some VW, Skoda and Audi cars.

I wouldn’t touch 2nd hand electric cars with a barge pole given the horrendous money you’d pay for new batteries.

The painful reality of VW who state “changing market conditions, not enough demand” What a load of tosh. They were number 1 in Aug/Sept even beating Tesla. It’s a smokescreen for their multi € billions loss through their CARIAD software failures from five years ago. They’ve got this to contend with starting tomorrow. Dear me! The Tesla kommandant can’t be so hard up as to start selling a retrofit stalk kit after it deleted turn signal stalks for the updated model 3 for a button on the steering wheel.

You can now buy the retro fit stalk kit for $595  for a solution it caused in the first place, also Tesla has now started to push out annoying adverts on its main infotainment screen, which has upset the fanbois. Here it comes!!! any car with a screen can now be made to show ads & you’ll have to pay a monthly subscription to stop them.

Yep…and as for new ones.
Way I see it is they are a bit like covid jabs.

Came out pre proven, and put out too early.

FAR too much encouragement and propaganda at National govt level for my liking to stop me smelling a rat in the form of a hidden agenda.

And in the long run could do you more harm than good…in at least 2 ways.:joy:

Perfect word for what’s going on in the world, I should have said OTA capable screens.

I’d have no issues buying a 2 nd hand electric car ( though only a Tesla ) really interests us , badge snobs ha ha

My 1/2 brothers Tesla x was 100, 000+ when it went ( can’t remember any issues with the batteries ) the bmw he has now must be 80,000 , last time we spoke it was 70,000 , he said he wouldn’t have anything other than a electric car now .

We still undecided what car we will have for a retirement car but I wouldn’t be suprised if we didn’t end up with a Tesla , lots of things to consider but reliability of a 2 nd hand of electric car wouldn’t be something I’d worry about .
