I’ve always been impressed by how many members can troll under one name and then reply later under another name.

Yup, I would love to know how many usernmes Toby/immagrant has cos in sure I’ve spotted a couple more

I stopped driving over 2 years ago, and took my 20 yrs experience into management.
Currently working for a major huge logisitics company…and seriously considering going back driving.

Apart from the boredom (absolutely no challenge in the job at my particular site) I am not very good at playing office politics and getting sick of the back stabbing and ■■■■■■■■.

I have had a couple of very very tempting offers and wouldn’t be at all surprised if I am back behind the wheel within a couple of months…

It is only this time away from driving that has made me realise that as crap as it can be at times, if you can find the right job, it can be a good thing.

eagerbeaver:
A few months ago I mentioned on a thread that my next move would be my last.

Well…it’s time to do something else  My most recent employers have been excellent, but I simply have no more enjoyment left doing this job.

Long hours, crap pay, dreadful traffic/roadworks & drivers on the road, shocking facilities, no parking, hated by the public, the list goes on and on. Daytrunker’s thread helped tip the scales for me, ■■■■■■■■ to this 50-60 hours a week, you have ONE life only and are a long time dead.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of this community, and the vast majority on here are a great bunch and I have ’ virtually ’ met some great blokes. (They know who they are  ) There’s a few bellend’s on here like there is in life in general, but now there is one less :grimacing:

Keep 'em lit folks, but please stay safe! Thanks to the mod’s for letting me be a knob by the way

Best wishes all, Lee.

I only lasted 1 day back at your place. I’ve moved on now. Returning to coach driving

Sad to see you go Beave’s, but I don’t blame you, I’m almost done with this industry too, sorting out my Pensions & hopefully got some Inheritance coming this year, brought a new Motorhome in March & we’re hoping to tour in it over the next few years.
Can’t wait to tell 'em where to stick the job, but I’ll be patient, won’t cut my nose off to spite my face (just yet [emoji6])
Good Luck in your next Venture. [emoji106]

Me too, after sorting out an old works pension I retired early at 62 in March.
I started the job in 1976 and it certainly aint what it used to be.
I’ve not missed it a bit nor have I been tempted to do any limping.

doom an gloomers are out in full force on this one!

Well I still love it! Granted I’m doing a niche job, that I drive for 2 weeks, then something else for 2 weeks and don’t do that much driving in them 2 driving weeks.

But I’ve done alsorts of different jobs since I started in 2000, I even left for about 4 or 5 years, not because I was ■■■■■■ off with the industry, but I ended up working for a bell end, after the previous own account job went bump. But despite liking the job and it suited me, the bloke could be a knob, ended up getting a bollocking over absolutely nothing, so rung a mate who’d said there was a job going at his place, thought I’d give it ago. As it turned out they ended up running a few trucks a couple of years ago, so I’m back driving them.

I do thinks it’s a bit rich from beaver, having a bit of a pop at drivers for not standing up and if someone wants to start something he’ll help, well if you’re that arsed you do it! But you won’t, because you’re no different to the people you think should be doing something but ain’t! And having a pop at people coming here working for 9ph, what we’re downtons paying you?

I’m not on here much, but from what I’ve seen, I think you’re the sort of bloke who’s always going to struggle in any job, you’ll always rub people up the wrong way, take the ■■■■ too much and then get the hump when they dig in against you and then they’re the ■■■■■■■ for checking up on you. Everyone has worked with people like that! It’s so easy to see from the outside, that they’re the architect of their own problems and why they get treated like they do. I wonder if they’d employ themselves? I’d bet most of them would, as they don’t see it!

But like I said, I’m not on here much, so maybe I’ve got you wrong?

Now I’m not saying it’s the perfect industry, it never will be, it never was, but neither is any other industry, you’re only going to be disappointing hoping to find one. There’s a lot of rose tinted glasses getting typed through on here, I’ve been around trucks as far as I can remember, there’s been a lot of changes, some for the good, some not so good, but no one should be surprised by this, nothing stays the same, I’m sure the people harping on about the glory days were being told by the old dudes at the time they’d missed the best years, just like they had too! Change with the times, pick your fights, fighting something you can’t change will just drag you down. Change jobs or industry if it no longer suites, it doesn’t mean you can’t hack it or the jobs ■■■■■■, it just doesn’t suite you anymore

Haulage isn’t going to collapse and it isn’t past the point of no return either!

I’ve worked in a few other industries and this one is easy money, of course you may find one that’s better for you, I’ll guarantee you’ll find worse, but don’t think most of the issues mentioned on here are confined to trucking.

Good luck in what you decide to do though beaver

Change with the times,

That’s so true. I well remember when I started in the late 80’s, being told sleeper cabs had killed the job. Others would say thank christ for sleepers, no more grotty digs. It was/is each to their own, never will change. From what I was told 7-8 year’s after the driver’s strike, there wasn’t that much unity, no surprise really, but hear some it was like there was no trucks on the road !!

Morning folks/hardworkers/knobs/shysters/old people.

Just thought I would have a quick read about my favourite subject…ME

Many thanks for the best wishes. Had a nice day yesterday, went for a nice walk with Mrs B around Heald Green. Popped over to the Airport pub for ice cold drinks and a nice lunch. Watched a few planes take off/land, and then came back to Warrington and bought some lovely salmon for tea. Yum!

Today I may have a wander up to the golf club later and do a bit of practice. And I don’t plan to be doing a lot for the next few weeks!

For those who have enquired about my more long term outlook, I have decided to take a leaf out of Daytrunker’s book. Part time van driving with tax credits to make up the extra :grimacing: After paying into the system since I was 16, I have decided to do exactly what the government want me to do, which is next to nothing, and claim crap loads of free money (some of which is my own anyway).

So for those of you who continue to drive like pricks, cut in on fellow drivers, hurl crap out of your window, tailgate, snitch, brown-nose, don’t wash, and basically be a complete embarrassment to the job, crack on! Your aim of destroying the job and ruining it for those who have pride is being realised. (Even the vodka swilling, texting flip flops are laughing at you! :grimacing: ).

But for those of you are genuine professional drivers, who take pride in the job and are capable of changing gears manually, I applaud you and wish you all the best.

I have received a job offer off a guy called ’ Phil ’ which I am considering. It’s a little strange though. It’s powder multi drop, cash only and no paperwork under any circumstances  I have tried e-mailing him but he is very unresponsive.

Phil Mc’Crackin? I used to know him…

Did a lot of work for pepsi…or was it their rival…?

:grimacing:

Mr Beaver welcome to the ranks of the semi retired lol,Went for my induction day yesterday and will be working Saturday and Sunday only, toddling round in a merc sprinter (auto of course lol).
Customers who are actually glad to see you tips not uncommon, and as its summer totty is out in force :grimacing: .
As only do 18 hours JSA for both of us pays the rent and council tax, without tax credits and housing benefit on top as extra so as the suns out we might take a stroll to the pub for lunch pint or 2 sat next to the canal should have done this years ago.
Good luck in what you do Mr Beaver.

Best wishes for the future Beaver, i got out last year I just let my tacho card run out then I’m not tempted to go do a shift, so I’m now free lol.
Also now no danger of bumping into Dozy or getting bumped by should that read.
Not missing Appleton one bit

Phils doing fine, don’t know where he is but he rang me, it was a bad line, think he’s shacked up with somebody as he mentioned something about… ‘‘doing some bird’’ ?
He asked me to send him a bar of soap  don’t know why, but he insisted on soap …on a rope, for some reason.
