No money in haulage

How come drivers never get a pay rise and when ask about them or any company you know local that’s had same pay rates for last 6 years yet always have new trucks and trailers and some even with toys and airbrushing yet they cry there’s no money in haulage any more. And yes always nice to have a decent bit of kit to do the job but also pay to live on. yet the min wage is creeping up to what most company’s are now paying for class 1.

£6.70 p/h in Spalding for Class 1

Disgusting quite honestly…absolute disgrace.

There are companies out there paying a decent wage but there are not many about unfortunately.

That’s ridiculous!

They could put your wages up but if the company goes under after a year you’ll be in a worse position than before. I’d sooner work for a company that doesnt pay the best wage but knew i had a very safe job than work for a firm where the job was constantly hanging in the balance for the sake of an extra £50 per week.

i asked 4 a rise, so they gave me a truck with a higher seat.

There is much better…

Keep on looking for that fifteen quid an hour job fella.

Try looking them up on your laptop while your sat on a loading bay all afternoon at eight quid an hour…

There is money in haulage.
I earn good money because I won’t work for less than what I regard is a good fair wage or what I deserve to be on.
Simple really. Someone will no doubt snap that 6 quid an hour job up and be happy with it.

All you need to do to land a decent days pay is to:
Do the job without moaning.
Be punctual.
Be honest.
Don`t take the ■■■■.
Read all the notes that you are given.
Call in about delays.
But most importantly…Communicate, be it good or bad, I call it being professional.
There are more nuances to the job, but these are picked up with experience and through the university of life…If your ears are open

I have had no trouble finding the work I want for a decent rate…But then I may be easy to please.

I’m a great beleaver in a descent days wage for a descant days work
If you feel your entitled to a pay rise fight your case
Don’t moan shout or demand things of your employer
Approach them with your genuine grievances and valued reasons why you should be paid more money, this approach often works
We are not conscripts and we are all free to chose who and what money we work for
There’s good money and bad money to be earned in this game
If you think your not bein paid what you should be and they won’t budge stick to pencills up your nose and constantly say wobble your soon be on incapacity BENIFIT mobility car given to you and ya rent paid

Think that you’ll find that the magic word is “wibble”.

Well March 63 I started and the arguments have been the same all the way through those years NO MONEY IN HAULAGE so sorry lads it’s no gauny change.
Eddie.

why would the the drivers rate go up when the rate for the job the truck is doing goes down? you just gotta be lucky and find that job thats secure and has that safe job thats gonna keep you going… being on 15 quid an hour is no good if your gonna be on the sausage roll just before/after christmas■■? i have learnt that chasing the $ is no good if your not happy, being happy in your job is half the battle, good times if you can earn big bucks and love your job.

Well said. I wouldn’t want big bucks somewhere I hate.
I like my job and with overtime currently I’m on about £10 an hour.
When I leave for an HGV job ill take a wage cut but Ill hopefully love my job!

not moaning about me im happy with what im doing and get over time and decent kit. just when look at job centre and past experience with some companys moaning at costs and no profit that it would make a good topic.

Since I started truck driving in 2006, my wages have risen every year (even twice in the same year). Decent firms, decent kit (except for the time I got a brand new Iveco :imp: ) and reasonable pay. I agree that pay could be better, but that would be true no matter where I work  especially since Mrs MadBaz keeps spending it on shoes & hairdos.

The OP is of course completely at liberty to jump on the gravy train and start his own transport company.

I guess up in the frozen north you might be working for peanuts, that’s your choice. Down here, to the west of London in the M3, M4 corridor you can earn decent money and pick and choose who you work for.But as a general rule, haulage is doctor hooked. The money is in the supermarkets or big logistics companies. I have picked up £250 for a single weekend shift from big household name companies who have been desperate lately.
