No jobs

Dont want to sound like the big I am but I always read with interest the threads about there’s no jobs etc.
I decided last week there wasn’t enough out of my truck to stay running it. I parked it up last Thursday had a drive round and had a job by 11 o’clock Friday morning.
Perhaps living in London means more jobs and maybe it was a bit of luck but it shows the old trick of going round knocking on doors still works.

top credit for getting out there and finding them work drive. Been looking for work up here in wales for a couple of months now and nothing aprt from agency work going

Well done, you tend to make most of your own luck in this game has been my experience.

Some are too fussy or have mega egos and think they have a right to the top rung, top job big motor perfect hours no graft involved etc, instead of getting a job with a half decent employer to get a start, and then moving around once feet are firmly under table.

My mate is a perfect example of how to do it right, he’s just started with my company, he’s gone on shifts he doesn’t really want but they do pay very well and as its specialised he’s learning whilst earning good bucks.

He’ll happily do all the weird shifts he has to till his ideal shift comes up and then he will transfer, no problem here about doing that.

He and i have worked togther at several jobs since the 80’s, its that attitude that has seen him in very well paid work before and again now.

Hope you can find some decent work for your truck or find a fair buyer if you decide to flog it.

Good luck with the interview toay KR might see you out in Lethbridge sometime

Well done on the job and good luck with it.

As you say the location does make a hell of a difference but at least your sorted

I dont think its the Location. Its more How and When you approach them

It was a case of mentioning a few good people who I had worked with who my new firm know wouldn’t vouch for you if you didn’t know what you was doing. Money is ok mainly on a tipper but done a few roll on jobs and a couple of low loader moves and they do look after you if your flexible.

So what you’re saying is that there are jobs out there but,as usual when times are tough,it’s often a case of who you know and having the right contacts that counts. :bulb:

Its just sad if you leave with lots Retailers and Job Agency around you :grimacing:

There’s always job’s. Lot’s of people just sit at home looking on line or filling in application forms then waiting. You can fill out as many applications as you want but to show you really mean it go and see the company or at least phone them. Even the company i work for ask for people to fill out on lin applications but that will mostly just sit there due to the amount of people who have applied, the guys who get jobs are the ones who call in also.
I know that although there is this supposed shortage of drivers jobs I could get another one within 24 hours if I left this one and I am often offered driving jobs back in the UK should i ever return to live.

I had all the doom and gloom when I passed my C+E 2.5 years ago…Got a job the day after passing the test.
I moved last year, to Lincs and wanted part time/casual driving…Knocked on doors, never looked back.
Always had enough to keep me happy :sunglasses:

Not realy just a case of previous people you have worked for or with saying he is a good worker swinging the job your way that’s life.
I’ve worked at firms that never advertise its a nod from a current employee that your ok. What’s wrong with that if you work there your not going to put a idiot up and mug yourself off.

Just because a driver doesn’t know someone who already works at a place doesn’t make that driver an ‘idiot’.It just means that they don’t know anyone who works there. :bulb: :unamused:

No of course it doesn’t just if you had god knows how many thousands of pounds of truck and someone you know and trust puts someone forward or a total stranger human nature says you will choose the recommended person.

Yea,but you may agree that the Best Driver could run out of luck.
Or did ya never been in a Situation,if your fault or another ones, you had Luck not messing anything up?

It’s right place at the right time, there are always jobs in transport. One licence is as good as another. Save for the initial few years, experience really seems to count for nowt apart from the really specialist roles. You are a number. A ticket with a C+E.

The aforementioned big ego’s are always dropping jobs. We had one at our place a few weeks ago, he walked after being called into the office after he threw a load inside the trailer. Obviously felt that properly securing the load was beyond him, so he threw his toys out of the pram to maintain his pride. If you had been as the transport window the following morning, no doubt there would have been a drive available.

Networking never hurts in this game, but a lot of people will give it the “there are no jobs” angle, when in reality there is nothing they would like to do/lower themselves to do.

Same goes for people who never leave the house in a job search. For all the wonders of agencies and the internet, it can still pay dividends to pick up the phone or go knocking on doors. Personality and the right attitude goes a long way.

No I totally agree it can be a case of in the right place at the right time and I’ve been in that situation and got a job because I’ve turned up as someone has walked or been sacked.
I’m not saying I’m a better driver than anyone else I just go in everyday and do my best that’s all anyone can do. It’s not a job driving a shiny v8 scania round Europe but I have a nice late Volvo fm tipper well looked after decent money I’ve done a few low loader moves when they have been busy which is something new for me it pays the bills but is a job lots on here see beneath them.
Now it seems that’s a problem with certain people on this forum if you have gained a reputation with people as a reliable hard worker with people who are respected in the industury. If I came on here saying I’ve been out of work for months and had sent off 500 aplications via e mail I’d be getting told your two fussy get out and visit people.
