No drivers allowed to use the canteen

I’ve been told “drivers can’t use the toilet” before. I just ask them which bush I should ■■■■ over. Has worked… :sunglasses:

The EE drivers don’t take kindly to this sort of thing, I was in a yard (No names) waiting for the light to go green, then the EE driver on the next bay comes out of the goods in office and lays a brick in the middle of the yard, complete with tissue. It WAS policy not to allow goods in drivers no access to any facilities, I believe this is no longer the case    .

Because drivers are their own worst enemies…

Overpin the sign with one saying “No blacks or Poles in this area” and watch what happens.

Black Polish lorry drivers must have it real tough then…

I guess you missed the part in the sentence where it says "Or "? :unamused:

Why do these places treat delivery drivers like crap?

Because you let them?

Exactly. Whenever I’ve been treated like crap by some of the staff my first port of call is the shift manager. I’ve pulled out of a few places as well, usually with the blessing of the traffic office.

My place is at the other end or the scale, the goods in lounge is twice the size of goods out it has a barista coffee machine subsidised vending and a ride in the lift takes you to the canteen and showers a 2 course meal costs less than £2 (if you can bag a vending card)

Spot on that’s the way to go

I did complain at First Choice. Some supervisor bloke did apologise but only after I asked why is it such an inconvenience to deliver something they ordered in the first place? One thing the tipper/aggregate game does better is charge waiting time. About time other businesses followed and put a stop to these companies getting free warehouse space.

This is the bit I don’t get why they don’t unless they are worried about losing the contract, If the warehousing was more efficient, trucks are more efficient so they can reduce their costs and prices everyone’s a winner.

When we used to get tippers rocking down from Buxton (sh!hole of the world  but I’ve got a transport planner chat up there next week  ) I did my upmost to make sure the lads weren’t held on the plant as mobile storage bins add they were all OD’s

Had a strange loo experience a while ago-- I was desperate: touchin cloth, curious tortoise etc
Anyway, office bod said I could use their loos just this once but drivers normally had to use the ‘drivers toilets’ which I presume where a little less plush.

I was a little annoyed at this so left them a nice ‘topdecker’, apologies for not helping with the truck driver stereotype…

Exactly the reason why we get refused access to facilities. They allowed you to use the office toilet instead of telling you to go and use the drivers loo. You then proceed to leave them a gift they wouldn’t enjoy. The next driver that comes along asking for the toilet will get told to jog on to the drivers bog!
And we wonder why we are treated as subhuman! :unamused:

A few years ago I had the misfortune of tugging containers out of Felixstowe. One of my regular runs was H&M at Greenford. The first time I rocked up here I asked for the toilet and was shown into a nice plush large toilet with a shower next door. The place was immaculate and spotlessly clean. I was then asked would I like to use the canteen and was then taken upstairs to a plush canteen area with free coffee and tea and use of a microwave and toaster etc. The canteen even had some nice leather sofas to relax on whilst waiting to be tipped.
I was so impressed that I fired an email of the the top boss of H&M thanking them for providing top class facilities and apologizing in advance to the inevitable scumbag drivers that will come in and make a complete mess in there!! :unamused:

Problem is not all places have loos that are suitable for public access. Where my missus works they had to stop anyone but staff using them as stuff was getting nicked from staff lockers.

Agree…not clever, very childish :unamused:

A few years ago the Wiltshire Times paper ran several stories about the free parking for trucks at Spa Road in Melksham.
Residents complained of drivers using their garden fences has a toilet.
They could not sit outside in their gardens due to the smell.
The Council shut it and trucks were not allowed to park there.
An elderly resident wrote in to the paper,as was offended to see a female driver getting undressed in the privacy of her sleeper cab.
Fridge motors were left running all weekend.Trailer swapping at all hours.
There is a garage opposite but they would not let drivers use it.“Customers only.”
A dog walker wrote in,she was too scared to walk through the parking area due to men having their bits out while urinating.

they really don’t like it when you smile and tell them you get paid whether it gets delivered or not. If they are dragging their heels just let them know that you are hourly paid and to crack on since you are being paid to sit on your arse

I concur I’m in there a lot and have used them all complete with a vending card.

Legally, under their beloved H&S legislation, they have to supply toilets, washing facilities, and drinking water. Having said that, I wonder if the HSE would ever bother if it was only a driver being refused the khazi?

Gary

as said about the loo’s also there’s a part in H&S that requires access to food and drink after a set amount of time

I’m having trouble finding the bit about food anywhere. Can anyone enlighten me?

it may have been a myth about the food thing clarematt but the water and loos is right .
it was just deemed unacceptable that a driver would not be able to have access to something to eat eve if it came out a vending machine.
In times past all the RDC would allow the drivers use of the canteens but as usual this became abused as the volume of traffic into the DC’s increased.

I know at night when traffic flow dropped off and if you were lucky to be tipped and off the bay or told you’d be an hour or so you could get away with using the canteen.

There was a time back when dinosaurs roamed the planet, where drivers were welcomed, facilities were offered and then BANG…drivers were refused the facilities mainly because THEY abused the hospitality, even if a brush was supplied, drivers would leave their mess without a quick brush around, free drinks meant drivers were filling their flasks and taking more than their fair share of the freebies, In Coca-Cola at Sidcup, free machines were available, but then again drivers were filling up carrier bags with the stuff, and wonder why facilities are being denied.

That sounds like the other thread on facilities, free tea and coffee so fill your flask up, and moan at the butty van owner or the other recent one whining about the pub.

Reminds me of the oldies on holiday the other year at the breakfast buffet dropping rolls and sandwiches under the table into their handbags for later
