No call for professional drivers?

I’ve mentioned in many threads on this BB different aspects of my son’s search for a driving job.
In a nutshell, after 10 years 7.5 tonne experience,he was made redundant three years ago and has spent £3,000 on extra training,Hiab,ADR,CPC and class 2 licence.
He’s now hardened to the usual reply of,“Not enough experience”,but is chasing every lead available.
He made a phone call a couple of days ago after seeing an advert from a large parcel company,“NOT the one I work for”!,for a 7.5 tonne driver.
He was told he would have to do one day’s work for free with another driver to see if he was suitable.
No problem,he’s desperate for a job.
I asked how the day had gone later.
Because there are so many drops to do,you are expected to teararse around ignoring speed limits.
The driver my boy was with was smoking continually,(Not allowed in company vehicles),on his mobile 'phone most of the day sorting out his marital problems,(Driving offence),and driving like a lunatic.to get all the drops and pickups done.
He also said he had lost his digi card but did not do a printout before and after the daily work period.
My boy may be a newbie and desperate for a job,but he wants to be a professional.
He had his digi card with him,is a non smoker,WILL NOT use his mobile while driving, and does not knowingly exceed speed limits.
On return to base, the TM spoke to the “Experienced driver” first, then told my boy there was no job as he was not quickt enough!
My boy so wants to be a professional driver like his dad, didn’t a lot of us?,but it appears there’s no vacancies for professional drivers these days!

Sounds like he had a lucky escape. Companies like that are never satisfied.

What company out of curiosity ?
