Hello all,
I have a question for those who know.
I work nights from 1730 to about 0200, mon - friday and this saturday i am on a dcpc day starting at 0745. The course is being paid by the company but i will not be getting paid and i need to know do i have to have a 9 hour rest after finishing my fri shift which will mean finishing work for 2245 or does the rule not apply as i am not driving trucks on saturday?
Thanks for any replies.
Legalistically you should treat it as Other Work, but I doubt anyone does.

He’s not getting paid, so it’s not other work.

He’s not able to dispose of his time freely, and the company paid for it.
Now, if he’d paid for it, and he wanted to use his free time to do a CPC module or two that’d be different.

I’m sure I can’t say anything to convince you as you don’t know me from Adam, so I recommend you (and more significantly the OP) check with the DVSA.

I’m not sure I care enough to seek a definitive answer.
For clarity, I go with your answer when I have a CPC session, not getting paid = not working.
It’s purely down to whether you’re attending voluntarily or you’re being instructed to attend
If the company say we’re putting a dcpc on, up to you if you attend, then you can attend in a rest period
If they say you’re going to a dcpc on Saturday, then you need a daily rest period and you’d need to record the dcpc as working time then start a weekly rest period after it

THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER
If im not driving or in a truck then anything outwith is none of the dvsa business.
Next they will have us marking down doing the garden at the weekend as other work.
Painting the back room. Other work.
■■■ with the mistress. Other work.
Pffffttttt. It all gone mad
Don’t think there’s a definative answer to this question.
Way I see it it’s work related have no choice but to do it as part of your job requirements.
So should be classed as working time paid or not.
In an ideal world it should be paid for be given enough time off between the course ending and shift starting to keep things nice and legal.
But doubt there many company’s that do this

You might not think it is, but it is!
Finish work at 2am Saturday morning and they want you to be on a course by 7:45am? It’s no from me!
it all boils down to how much of a fanny you are,how vosaphobic paranoid you have become, and how far down the beancounter trail your company is as to what you would need to do.
in pedantic nitpicker usual suspect by the letter of the law land, then rog has the correct answer.
in reality land, then do as you wish as its hardly likely that anyone else will know or care.
I wouldn’t worry to much about it. Think most people do it on there rest days.
Not being paid to attend = Not work.
Not work = No need to book it, or worry about rest.
Not being paid also= No compulsion to attend.
Too short a rest, or don’t want to go for ■■? reason = pay for your own course at another time.
.
Is that alright?

.
Probably not…
