Nightingale Engineering Tanker Rental

Greetings,All. Here’s an old photo of a Nightingale Engineering Seddon-Atkinson 400 with a Graham Adams of Malden low loader trailer.Might be of interest. Regards,900x20.

Nightingale Engineering was owned by the Allen family, and who acquired Atkinson in 1933. Atkinson Vehicles (London) Limited operated out of Nightingale Lane too.

Atkinson was floated as a public company in 1954 and the Allen family eventually lost overall control, although Mr. A.W. Allen remained as MD until the Seddon takeover, late in 1970. I think I’m right in saying that Nightingale Garage/Nightingale Engineering remained in the ownership of the Allens, rather than being an Atkinson subsidiary.

Hello Lads aki fanatics and all. I have put a bit on the nightingale site re aki explaining what I knew about the steamer on the low loader.reference to the ownership of Nightingale Engineering when I worked the on the tanker and truck rental side the company was owned by Wadham Stringer who were big in car franchises, they in turn were owned by a large New Zealand Company called Tozer Kemsley and Milbourne.Who also had Taunton Meat and Cavewood under there umbrella. The time I am talking about would be late 70 s early 80s. Hope this helps to throw some light on things. Dave :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks Dave! I didn’t know when the Allen family had bowed out of Nightingale

You may remember another big tanker fleet, who built, and ran their own fleet as well as building fuel tankers for others.

These photos were taken at the LDOY heats in surrey. The chap with the coat was one of the officials, nobody dare criticise his dress if you want to win. Keep looking .
