Hi chaps, I have an idea that I’d like to change jobs and give tipper work a try. I only like night work really, so it would be tarmac work on motorway maintenance and the like.
As ever, comments, suggestions, and info about firms and likely paypacket(very important that), will be gratefully received.

Same idea but not night work! I’m fed up with nights now! I want away from GH and try the waste/recycle work! They are always drinking tea at butty vans! I’ll have some of that thanks! 
Try asphalt plants local to you as O/Ds often looking for reliable night drivers the downside is its not 5/6 days a week more like 1/2 or3 I have mates who do this but it suits them as they semi retired coffin dodgers(they gona luv me for that)
When we did have night work it was busy,but long hours Sometimes starting at 5pm and finishing at 5-6 am depending where and who you where running to. Yes ask the o/d,s but you might find a cold shoulder off some of them? Think about it, a od handing the keys of there pride and joy over 
Money, some lads up here, where on £100 a night ,odd ones on £120 
for a full 6 nights a week,good money if you can get it as cash in hand! but alas those days have gone. Good luck i did,nt mean to sound negative in my first reply

If your thinking of Self Employed he pays £15 per hour dependant on experience, quite often looking for subbies for nights for road planning and tarmac.
if your looking for nights away on tippers as the guy is probably a bit far to travel for shift work.

Most tipper work is a dirty job, but by christ, bar the odd balls up its easy money.
I love picking up the odd week with some of the above. Far less stressful then running out of Felixghanistan.
oh edited to add, if you go self employed with any off the above, ensure you stipulate that you contract yourself out on a minimum charge of 10 hours. don’t let the b’stards beat you down Most night road works you only end up doing 5-6 hours, and if it rains you can get fuzzed off after an hour. They charge for 10 hour minimum so its only fair you get a share.
Oh edited again, Hairds pay on a 60 day contract base for self employed, so if you live hand to mouth be aware as your going hungry for 2 months.
Well, many thanks so far for the frank and varied replies fellas. You’ve certainly given me some food for thought, especially as it’s that uncertain time with a take-over looming, and not knowing which way to jump. I think it pays to have a peep over your shoulder, and keep your options open.
