Had to night out last night for the 1st time in nearly 4 years. Had a lighting issue with the trailer and, long story short, the replacement LED light cluster couldn’t be scourced till this morning.
Called in to log off before bedding down, and also when I reached the repair workshop this morning. The log off call was expected the morning call wasn’t. So my question is:-
Are you expected to call in the morning after night out or does your company have other ways off confirming you are OK. You could be a long time waiting if help was needed.

Sorry if I appear to be thick here (again
)
…but what do you mean ‘‘Called in to log off/on’’ ? and why does your firm need to ‘‘Know you’re ok’’ (and why would you not be
.)
In my case in same situation… …
I would park up, ring in informing them there was a fault, and ask if ‘Call out or go for repair in morning’.
Book off for day. Off to pub, supper and a drink, back to cab…(would not need to tell them I was ‘‘bedding down’’ as it’s ■■■■ all to do with them, it’s my OWN time
.)
Have 11 off, get up, daily checks, coffee, then ring in to see what their plan is for repair.
Does that help or what?
Question re the trailer , does it have one single light unit either side or 2 hamburger style each side ?
I don’t generally phone in unless I’m empty and I don’t know what back load I’ve got

I don’t hear from mine from day to day. There a no question of me calling to when parked up or calling to start work again the next day. They juat leave me to sort it.

Same here, that was my whole point.
Not speaking about, or for the o/p here, as I do not know him or his situation, but some firms treat their drivers (and expect them to respond) like ■■■■ schoolboys.

Maybe different if you’re tramping but our lot want you to ring in with locations, what time back etc, as we are mostly day men (albeit with start times at different points). I can see that if deliveries & collections are outstanding there could be some “updating” of clients & rearranging of daily schedules to recognise that fleet & personnel availability has changed.
They knew that I would be running into the workshop , about 45 miles, once daylight & rest taken so maybe there was no expectation for me to call in before leaving my overnight ■■■■■■■■■■■■.

It’s a single unit with all the lights contained within it, sealed unit & connectors so no realistic prospect of accessing the units internal gubbins to clear the short circuit. Progress eh the trailer is barely 2 years old. I’d made the delivery only had waste on.

Ahhh ! …dayman type work, right that explains it.
I know absolutely nothing of such things.
Cos I’m a ‘‘proper’’ trucker.
(Joking btw.

That’s Zb as if it’s twin hamburgers like my trailer , just tape a black bag over offending unit a off you go as you’ve still got one working unit on that side [emoji6]

It was more the short within the unit took out all the lights on the same circuit. No front markers, no off side markers only 1 rear taillight, not even close to giving it a go after dark. the indicators & brake lights were still working so removing the faulty unit also lost those lights.

I knew that.

Sleeping in a tin box doesn’t do it for me. (also joking btw)

You’ve never lived until you’ve crapped in a carrier bag and not washed or showered for a week.
I’d let you daymen into a secret but I’d have to kill you all.
Or had a catwalk disposable bbq.

Sounds like some of my teen age years…
Where i am they don’t call me.only time I ring them is when done the jobs I have.
Don’t ring them or anything if on a night out.
All they do is start at 7 in morning check where we are on the tracker and that’s it.
Don’t think I could cope of I had to phone in say im.parked up.
Then phone in next day say I’m setting off.
We have a tracker they just sit watch that all day.

So my question is:-
Are you expected to call in the morning after night out or does your company have other ways off confirming you are OK. You could be a long time waiting if help was needed.
Bearing in mind that many drivers (and indeed those who are employed in other areas entirely unconnected with driving) spend nights asleep alone in their own beds, why would you expect any company to have “ways of confirming they are OK”? Do all single people need to have pre-arranged lifelines in place just in case they need “help”?

If I wasn’t ok then the first my lot would know about it would be when someone complained that their load of frozen tat hadn’t been delivered. No doubt then like the well oiled global logistics player they are they would swoop into action and despatch a driver and a bin bag to sort the problem out. The driver would continue my ever so important deliveries once he’d put my body in the bin bag and disposed of it into the nearest ditch.

Hamburger? Twin Hamburger? WTF.
Is this just jargon for the sake of it, to make it seem we do massively important /secretive job that needs to be only spoken of in code? What utter tripe. You had a light out, get it sorted. Have a Hamburger after. What utter nonsense.

The round lights on trailers are known as hamburger lights. Because they are round and about the same size as a hamburger well not a Mac Donald’s one lol that’s how the fitters orders replacements with his suppliers “I need 2 hamburger lights for a trailer please.”
You even get LED Hamburger lights nowadays.
