There is a maximum payment allowed tax free.
The minimum is the lowest your willing to accept.
Maximum payable tax-free is £26.20. There is no minimum amount, a haulier could pay nothing for nights out if he wanted.
Has the law changed on night out money? I was speaking to another driver and he said his company has told them that they can’t get cash anymore and you’re going to be taxed on it !
Reed boardall are offering £5 on one of their options

Are they struggling for drivers? They should be.
I’m shocked Even that has dropped over the years, I was on 25 quid a night before I left the country, Swifts paid 15 quid a night in 1987.
Still better than most here though, the first company I drove for here paid $40.00 lay over (night out pay). That is the only company I know here that pays anything, my present one will pay $100.00 if you are stuck out all weekend but that’s all.
My mate has been on about this for a while , said they’ve had meetings over it , company are now paying £5 meal allowance to cover it but he’s saying it doesn’t cover it , not happy
HMRC have started investigating as a lot of companies were claiming tax on so called night out money, so in their wisdom decided how much a night out money can be paid before it being taxed, that figure is around £26 +
most pay around £20, with £25 for international n/o…but others pay more ( luckybstards ) Subsistance allowance ( its real name ) is to reimburse a driver for his inconvenience and to give him some kind of redress for what hes missing at home …no comments please… and if a company refused to pay night out money…then i`m afraid i wouldnt do one…they can…its disgraceful and penny pinching…the same as the ones who wont pay for truck stops…are the same ones having their diesel stolen, and their curtains slashed…and serves them right in my opinion.
What has changed is recently the HMRC have got there teeth into Night Out money, and will randomly check whether the night out was essential or not.
Whereas a while ago you could pay 5 nights out whether the driver was in his cab or not, to make up the basic, you now have to prove if asked where he was. Within a radius of base you can now pay night out allowance but it has to be taxed.
I am wondering if at some point they will chase meal allowance payments which are currently tax free.

^^^ That.
We changed at the beginning of the tax year to what we call an Inconvenience Payment which is the night out money grossed up, so the drivers get £30.00+ but after tax it ends up the same as night out money. My finance guy reckoned it wasn’t worth the hassle over bits of receipts to cover it.
We do a £5.00 a day meal allowance and as it’s passed tax visits before, we are still paying it.
