Night Heater

The cab heater on my 10 year old Scania is useless,it blows luke warm air all day, could I drive with my night heater running to keep the cab nice and warm.

Why don’t you just defect the thing or are you an owner operator?

Some of the wrecks i’ve driven it was the only method of getting any heat in the cab, not as like the heat it feels stuffy and airless to me, but better than finding your feet are near enough cramped with cold, fire it up and keep it going, when it packs in finally they’ll have to fix both heaters properly.

itl barely drink 2 litrs or fuel in a shift…light er up.

It probably needs a couple of new thermostats, mine did.

Possibly needing a service, the last time one of ours was playing up we used a crowd called Mellor, very knowledgeable and helpful.
They do spares and service kits for night heaters and you can also send your heater to them if it needs a repair.

atleast your night heater works, I drive for a small firm, 3 vans 1 truck, the truck blows out luke warm air like yours but the night heater doesn’t work. Boss says “you don’t need a night heater, you don’t do nights out”, but I spent around 10 hours a week parked on a bay, with no keys!!

This is your best bet ,depending on the make there are too many things to trial and error with if your not familiar with them ,it was the gauze blocked with carbon on my erbaspacher when it ran cool .

To answer your question as nobody else has as they’re busy answering a question you didn’t ask, yes, you can drive with the night heater on!

have a look at the earth lead on your heater,i had an old scania and it was the same not putting out much heat, the fitter tested the leads and the earth lead was knackered, put a new one in…sorted

I leave my night heater on all day,i do a lot of waiting around so it keeps the cab warm as i cannot leave the engine running.

Many moons ago I used to drive a Premiun and used to drive with the night heater on as it seemed that the normal fan heater was developed for the LHD market; all the hot air seemed to go into the passenger footwell and not the drivers side.

My T cab is passenger side biast as well, there’s even a vent on the passenger side bed area for keeping your feet nice and toasty. Unfortunately as that’s where my head is it tends to blow down me earhole unless I block it off with the curtain.

I know I could sleep the other way round but I’m awkward.

Regarding the ops question, yeah just run the night heater all day to stay warm.

Lift front grill and look under pollen filter and see if the water valve is fully open, black plastic valve cable operated, cable may be broke stretched? If cab windows mist up as well get that pollen filter changed

see if its leaking water ? i would bet its thermostats stuck…but to keep nice and snug…run the night heater…your health is more important.

Its either as has already been suggested, the water valve not fully open or the thermostat is partially stuck open allowing water to circulate around the engine block and radiator before the engine is up to temperature fully…
