Night heater in the summer

Best to run it weekly to prevent the parts from ceizing up.When winter comes it should not fail then.

Good idea, and its the same with AirCon…always do a weekly check, that way, when it comes to the right season, everything should work as it should.

Thanks tobester! Mind you it’s still chilly enough at night to use it in the morning before you scrape yourself off the bunk.

What summer? :unamused:

Do they need a periodic safety inspection? They burn diesel so presumably emit carbon monoxide.

You can get self-contained CO alarms with internal batteries fairly cheaply.

I’d have thought one could be a wise investment if you live in the cab, especially if running a night heater or open-flame stove.

IIRC the Volvo Globetrotter had a smoke alarm

Paid about 40quid for my co2 alarm :open_mouth:, cant put a price on that sort of stuff though… Scanias have a smoke alarm but there crap and break, spent to much time designing V8 badges in my opinion…

£40? Cheaper than waking up dead

Exactly.

The original air-cooled VWs had an exhaust gas heat exchanger as a demister/heater.

If it holed, you had exhaust gas ducted inside the car.

Nice.

Yes but expensive.

My cost £18. Its kiddie smoke and co2 in one. Lads in yard do take the mick. Who care`s.

Would help if someone set a fire under your cab.

Stay safe!!!

Air con isn’t just for cooling the air in the summer. In colder, damper times of the year, heat plus air con will demist the interior quicker than heat alone as it removes moisture.

When I worked for Fed Ex back in the 90’s I had a Merc then a Volvo F10 both had night heaters that blew cold air in summer, so they never ceased up.

Most night heater problems are caused by blocked filters, socks, pubic hair and old newspapers. The thing is without the right fuel/air mixture they simply will not run. They are fairly safe.

If the exhaust and the inlet tube is not balanced. ie, corroded, it is unlikely to fire up. There is no smoke without fire.

Seizing is the correct spelling…

Yes it does, and I had a message come up on the dash on Thursday that told me to run the night heater for 20 mins to clean it.

just bought 1 from homebase with a 5 year battery for 20 quid.

Those pesky Germans just never know when to pack it in.
