not many puddle jumpers nowadays I would of thought :grimacing:

I remember talking to a Clan International driver who’s main job was taking a trailer, loading it in the SE U.K., over on the train, swap with another Clan driver then back over, presumably tip that one and back home. Few years back mind.

Know a few firms that did TNT - I think it included M&M and another one from Tring way, who I can’t recall - pretty sure that’s go out, 9/11 off, straight back.

I used to do similar sometimes if we covered a run for another firm - Midlands to Dordrecht, drop trailer on bay, 11 off, collect the reloaded trailer and run back.

Euro distance trunking v tramping is probably the best of all worlds ‘if’ it can be found.IE you need to go further than than that possible in a shift to get the best of the Euro terrain and scenery but no need to spend weeks or more away tied to a truck.Sadly most if not all of the already small amount that we had of that type of work in this country has now been lost to foreign operations. :bulb:

Carryfast wiping a tear from his cheek, reminiscing about driving wagons on the continent…

Dozy is still with us.

my dad used to do nightshift from england to 1 drop in berlin then run back empty without stopping for even a 45…it was in a lancaster bomber though.woud that count?

I know a few years ago MAM transport of Northampton did some Paris trunks. I’m not sure if they still do. It might be worth a phonecall.

Still do, as do Pearce, mainly tnt, ups do regularly every day.

I regularly see UK registered UPS trucks going across into France or on the way back, and I think there is quite a bit of Air Freight moving between main hub airports across Europe.

We still have the puddle jumpers running the fish at night from Larkhall to Boulogne.
Not me sort of thing, I don’t do night shifts.

Not really continental experience though is it? Get off Eurotunnel, join A16 motorway, get off 30 minutes later.

I never said it was!
You obviously either have a poor grasp of the English language or didn’t read the title of the thread!

I used to do maidstone roosendaal 5 times a week in late 90s and mouscron- Easton would attempt 5 a week around 2005 regular did maidstone and 4 collections Brussels - Antwerp area and return . All boring work and maxing out all week and although back at base wasn’t worth going home as was nackered all the time

try doing half a dozen drops in the fish market at 5.a.m. and see how long it takes for the sweat to run into the cheeks of your bum if your not used to it.you will want to jump into the trailer when your getting it washed out and have them spray you as well…i remember thinking this continental lark is a doddle until i left the slab and headed down the big hill into bolougne, then it wasnt so pleasant when i started thinking… blinking flip, where do i go now■■? :open_mouth:
and then theres the option of a backload of bananas from dock number 9999999999 or similar from antwerp when you havent a clue and antwerp is built round the docks…actually the biggest shock was the price of a roll and bacon and a coffee in bolougne canteeen…

Do you know if the MAM work is double manned?
