This is our local coal merchant using drop-sides but double stacked with 50kg sacks, and no straps

When I was little I can remember the assistants sitting on the coal sacks on the back of the truck. I also remember one assistant coming off complete with the coal sack when the driver went up the kerb taking a corner too tight. Just put the sack back on and carried on with their day.Ah the good old days when they didn’t make you wear a fluorescent jacket just to sit in the cab, or take a pee behind a tree…
yep pre loaded sacks and a small hopper at the back for other stuff. he’d walk through the alley and tip it in the coal shed out the back we’d have about 10 sacks at a time… and then we had Ol Steptoe with his horse and cart , he used to do knife sharpening and garden tools too, happy days
