Nice quiet spot

Running back down the M11 today I was a bit short on time so I came off at Duxford, looped round the first roundabout and pulled into the layby just before the M11 planning a bit of shuteye.

Unfortunately what I’m 99% certain was an F22 was doing his own airshow right over the top, very low and very loud. But bloody brilliant nonetheless. Then when he’d buggered off I was treated to the sound of what must have been an F1 car on the runway.

Dunno what was going on there today.

i always hope to see something flying when i’m going past duxford, dont usually get lucky though!

I saw a Spitfire and a Tiger Moth there a few weeks ago , brilliant sight, one day I’ll park up there and have a walk round

Haha 8wheels I did exactly what you did planned a bit of shuteye in that layby and had a spitfire above my head lol…they are practising for this weekends airshow

came past wittering the other day and there was a dakota and 2 spits(i think) doing a demo

lovely things

Probably the BBMF they’ve got a Dak for ferrying stuff about and doing multi engine / taildragger training for the Lanc crews but they also display often with a Spit & Hurricane.

I quite often get the honour of a Spitfire flying over my area, I’ll often leave the dining table to go outside and watch. I’m pretty good at identifying them by their sound.

Duxford airshow this weekend so probley rehersals or that.

Indeed they have, and if you happen to be at RAF Coningsby or in the area on Sunday 2nd October, the full flight will be up for the annual airshow for Lincolnshire Lancaster Association members of which I am one. You can obviously see them perform from outside the base by standing on the adjacent road, but if like me you have a ticket, then you can get access to the hangar where they are all kept.

Ken.

As others have said its the Duxford Air Show this weekend and the jet that was keeping you awake was an F15 Strike Eagle.

I did think F15 initially but had it my mind it was a single tail. Actually when you look at silhouette pics of both there’s not much difference.

When you see these WW2 planes on film it doesn,t do them justice to seeing them in reality, I saw the Lanc and Spitfire the other day and I know it sounds corny :unamused: but it does bring out old style patriotism in you, has anybody seen the recently restored 60s Vulcan bomber, that is def worth seeing.
( Commonrail next time you see the Spits & Dakota fly past try and stop the wittering    )

i was on the road that runs past Dux towards Cambs a few years ago
& saw this small plane diving straight down & then levelling off at the last minute. He kept on doing it & I kept on driving
. I got home & on the radio the news came on that a plane had crashed & the pilot killed in practise at Duxford about 2 hrs previous.

That must not of nice it hear. The crane trainer at my place was parked up at birchanger services one day and heard this almighty bang, looked up and saw smoke and fire right in the distance, everyone got out as they didnt know what happened. When he got home it turned out to be the hatfield plane crash.

See this link for more from Southport this year.

Oh, I also like this too…

Vulcan is a beauty! :sunglasses: As is the Tornado! :grimacing:
Nice pictures Wayned! I love military aircraft! Cutting edge Technology for their era! :sunglasses:

Ahh! The Red Arrows! Best of The Best! :sunglasses:

When I can get the time off, I go all over the country to air shows, love them :sunglasses:

No interest in commercial craft though, used to work airside, and they’re just like busses, so no photo’s of any except concorde.

I’ve also been in the cockpit of the Antanov AN-225 when the crew were stranded at Manchester airport a few years ago, had to keep taking them back and forth to the hotel, didn’t have my bloody camera or phone with me that day though, gutted

Many years ago in '96 was coming home past Dux and treated to the sight of a P38 Lightning doing the rounds, unfortunately that was it’s last ever flight, pilot’s too
