Nice machine

This came past me on M1 earlier today, I was showing 55mph on sat nav and it went past quite easily, sounded sweet doing it too.

Not seen it before, so thought I’d google it when I got home.

It’s a Volvo BigTV truck, has a massive TV that pops out of the trailer, looks a real cushy number.

They’re a nice big cab, although that is the old model which is quite dated now. If its got I-shift it wont be half bad, or a proper European syncromesh box retro-fitted. If its a crash box then it will be a shed to drive, especially on congested British roads with constant stop/starting.

No idea, it was about midnight, I moved over and let him join the M1 from the services, then about a mile down the road he cruised past me.

Mainly noticed it because of the sound when it went past, and the number plate arrangement YG5 on line 1, 1ZLP on line 2.

Sounded ace, checking tinternet, it says it’s a VN780?

Thats right. The 780 bit referes to the fact its got a 78 inch sleeper, which is measured from the back of the seats to the rear wall of the cab. I think its the biggest standard truck cab in north America. Most are around 70 inches, give a take. The standard fleet spec Volvo is a VNL670 which while being a decent enough tool, is very small inside compared to the one in your photo.

This is the set up for outside broadcasts.
This was at The National Memorial Arboretum on the A38 near Burton, being used to relay a memorial service to visitors who could not get to where the action was.

Surely that number plate would be a tug by z victor one or VOSA?
well for us mere mortals it would be :unamused:

how come no o licence?

as

Certain types of vehicle are not exempt from operator licensing - provided they are over 3.5 tonnes gross plated weight. They include:

mobile exhibition vehicles
catering vehicles
mobile shops and mobile medical screening vehicles
vehicles with fixed equipment but carrying goods or a load that is not strictly for use in connection with that equipment, or towing a trailer that is carrying goods or a load

It’s been on events I’ve worked on and though I’ve never had the tape out, I think it’s overlength - 45’ trailer with that unit can’t be right.

Spec is here: big-tv.co.uk/pdf/46MSQ_Spec.pdf and if you unmuddle the metres and feet it still looks wrong.

Do they just have the 1?

That’s a job I think I’d really enjoy, drive a nice truck, set up a tv, watch tv, back to depot, play ps3 on big tv :sunglasses:
