Nice letter from Bath Council

Evening everyone.
I’ve had a letter from Bath Council inviting me to donate £60 (reduced to £30 if paid quickly) to their Christmas Party Fund. It might have been because I was in a poorly marked bus lane…
Now, my question to all you guys and girls, should I do what it says on the letter. ('scuse the crappy picture) “You must not ignore this notice or pass it to the driver”.
Given my grasp of the native tongue, this gives you a choice by using the word “or”.
You must not” - defines the action; “ignore this notice” - a clear instruction; “or” - a choice - “pass to the driver” - a clear instruction
Now, in my simple and sober mind, I’ve read the document i.e. not ignored it, and I won’t pass onto the driver i.e me
So, where do I stand if I take no action?
Cheers
Paul

The remainder of the notice (i.e. the bits that are not shown in the photo) will doubtless explain the consequences. But I think you might need to reconsider your interpretation of the word “ignore”

At guess, they require you to respond by either confirming you were the driver or identifying the person who was driving. If you do nothing, the fine will be automatically recorded against you.

You mentioned, Poor marking. I would check the legality of proper marking if u can. I would do this cause other white line marking fines etc can be argued on the fact that they are not clear enough. In that I mean, not worn and unreadable.

If there is a break in any road markings they do not fit the exact criteria which allows the bus lane to operate as a bus lane.

Same goes for road signs they have to be at the start and the end using a specific signage layout and correct height.

If any of it is wrong, it might as well not be there in the eyes of the law

If it was in a vehicle not registered to you personally, then it is not your problem.

If it was in your car, you can appeal, and if it was really poorly marked or there is any defect in the wording of the PCN then you can appeal and win.

Scan both sides up and start a new thread on Pepipoo Forums.

The Council probably will not accept an appeal if it wasn’t registered to you, as with Parking Fines, they are the responsibility of the Registered Keeper rather than the Driver.
