I’ve done Lux through to Pirmasens, I think I know where you mean, but I can’t remember the name of that town either!!!

The Shell garage I think you mean, is at Hinterweidenthal on the B10 near the shoe museum.
I stopped by on my way in and out of Germany about a month ago- they still serve good grub and coffee.
