Depends what suits you really, and there’s only one way to find out! You might enjoy Next work, I did double-manned high-value stuff in central London for a couple of years and was one of the most enjoyable jobs I ever had. On the surface, it sounds awful but we had a great bunch of lads and a great manager.

This was before corporate “teamwork” guff, probably the only place I’ve worked where we actually were a team, all in the pub on a Friday night, happy days.

OP, when you signed up for the course were you not told of the huge driver shortage and that when you’ve passed your test companies would be queueing up, desperate for your services?

I’ve done my (rather small) share of mixed multi-drops and a few long distance single deliver-collect-deliver but the job I have now is the best I’ve had - I drive a curtain-sider for a packaging company; job is get loaded in the morning or sometimes the vehicle is pre-loaded, all palletised so everything handled by forklift (I don’t even have a pump truck), get to their customers - 1 to 3 per run, get unloaded, 90% local drops, get back, get loaded again … 2-3 runs/day, 7-9 hours/day, home every day BUT money is crap…

I have a mate who delivers to building sites (also class 2) with 2-3 nights out, all long distance, no handball, happy with the money, not so much about sleeping in truck and not knowing when/if he will be home today

Personally I’ve learned to stay away from the big logistics/distribution/parcel companies - they didn’t get big by paying fair wages or taking their drivers into consideration. Lots of promises and manipulative speak (they have “professional” HR people who will do their best to convince you what privilege - nay, what a distinguished honor it is for you to have the incredible opportunity to prove yourself to them that you’re an excellent multi-drop driver etc. £8.50 p.h.)

Hi stanley, no i didnt sign up with anyone, just went did the driver training myself was something i wanted to do for long time

You miss my point. A real driver shortage would mean your only available option wouldn’t be dross like Next multi-drop.

Cue Rog and his infamous saying . . .

Aw right got ye now haha yeah iv read about the supposedly drivers shortage amd iv guessed its a scam to get ppl to sign up with train now pay later schemes on finance

Is it me living in daily/Sunday sport land, delivering household furniture to lonely ladies at home all day, A big trucker arrives with a new bed, what happens next,

What happens next is they put a big claim in to totally redecorate the house claiming that big burly trucker scraped the new bed down the walls, they then sue aforementioned trucker for hurt feelings and gender stereotyping after he called her “love” or “pet”!

Done it in class 2, 7.5T and oversized vans and its absolutely horrible although wasnt Next, but did deliver for them, DFS, I think there was John Lewis in there too. Independent companies.

I guarantee the stuff will weigh a ton and its hard work carrying that upstairs which if its beds is always where they want it. People never seem to want stuff in bungalows, and 3 story houses are not unusual.

People won’t worry if the stuff will go through doors etc even sofas. Good luck getting it in esp as they also wont have removed the expensive ornaments from the path. Often wondered if it was deliberate.

Suspect you’ll need to build stuff like beds, tables and similar which is a pain. Being agency you wont get the money which the fulltime people get (in theory) for building stuff.

Starts are often stupidly early. For example the last one i did was Nottingham and deliveries were 6am to Teeside!

Oh and don’t be surprised if you have to take your shoes / workboots off as they have beige carpets or just stupid house rules. Whatever you do, dont drop a box on your foot, it hurts! So much for H&S.

Sorry, never met any rich old ladies. Actually did meet one, but didnt seem interested in toyboys. I figure the other guy was too old or might have been his beard that was putting her off.

If you think all semi expensive stuff is bought by people in big houses with lots of room. Err no, its often terraced houses with cars parked everywhere. Or houses where you really want to wipe boots on way out where the benefits are paying for it.

Multidrop pallets is sooo much better!

Bah humbug…

Honestly I’d just do regular multi drop. Parcels companies are good if you can survive the first few weeks. You can sometimes get like 20-50 drops in a 7.5t or 5-20 in a 18t but once you learn the area it’s easy and it’s almost all kerbside/doorstep delivery.
Failing that class 2 supermarket work is boring but pretty easy.

Noooooo, that’s what happens in gaurdian reading Islington, I’m thinking of places like Hull and Grimsby O and Mrs Dozy :open_mouth:
