Carl Slocombe was travelling alongside the lorry in his car on the Southern Distributor Road when the incident happened this morning. (23 MAY 14)

As he approached the bridge he spotted that a crane on the back of the lorry was sticking up and it was this that hit the side of the bridge. “It just flipped the front of the lorry up and the whole thing went over on its side,” said Carl.

I live near to this joke of a road and er’ indoors was going to work when she witnessed the incident and the two dummies in the cab crawling from the wreakage.

The bridge is not marked as it’s over 16"3, go figure.
