Newcroft training?

Anyone been with these? know what they’re like, i’ve got an assesment with them for my class 1 on wednesday so at least I’ll have a better idea of how many days i’ll need, hoping for just one then test, but it has been a while and undoubtedly i’ve picked up some bad habits from driving class 2 around properly and not in ‘test conditions’.

In further news, job situation is still bleak. Nowhere seems to be hiring and theres barely any agency stuf out there:(

Steve

I’m not sure if one days training is common, especially on artic.

The only way to really know is to have an assessment with a couple of schools. I would take my hat off to you if you passed first time with just a day’s training though

Hi mate.

I have FIRST HAND EXPERIANCE WITH THESE

I have done my class 1, HIAB and Forklift. All in all not a bad school mate. The instructors are nice, know them very well and theirs 2 tasty birds in the office too

The motors are ok, one of the arctics is runs a 2 axle trailer with range change obviously…the other is a 3 axle trailer with range and splitter, ask to have a go in each, see what you like best mate.

Never really had a prob with them, and if payment is an issue there more than helpfull.

Cash is alot cheaper. Have a trial drive, see What you think. Reversing area isnt all that, but their getting it sorted. The manager Kim, is very helpfull and freindly, and an istructor, Pat, is a top bloke. Need any more info, gis a PM.

All the best,
Ben

Try college hgv training in Romford.

I think the min you will be able to do is three days, two days training and third day test at Thurrock, but that all depends on how many bad habits you have picked up driving class 2

P.S

If you go their, ask about work in Basildon area on general haulage. They sorted me out on class 2 work when i just passed at 22 a year back.

1 more day to go, have to admit i’m looking forward to being behind the wheel of an artic again:0
Its not first time, I did a full course last june and only just missed passing, (that curb was just lonely and wanted to brush my rear tyre!) but thats about the only error I got, Unfortunately its quite a serious error:(
Would be nice to just do one day then test but realistically I think i’ll need two, as i’m quite sure I want to practice the reverse maneouver again and also get used to the length again just generally driving.

If your trainer is willing to put 7-8 hrs in over a 24h period then you mayt get away with just the one day. I did not realise it was just a refresher

As it’s been over 6 months since last lot of training, you may have weakened at a few of your skills.

Good Luck

Good luck with the assessment tomorrow. I have known the trainers at Newcroft for ages and they always seem a good lot when we run into each other at Purfleet.

To do it in 2 days inc the test would require you to be pretty good at the reversing already and adapt to the vehicle within only an hour or so. It is possible though so go for it.

I looked at Newcroft when i started out, their kit was crap and still is i believe plus their training yard is just that, a crappy old yard with pot holes the size of a football, I often see them with their students around the back of B and Q thurrock training their pupils and using the public highway for their braking maneuvers, utter rubbish if you ask me, if i am paying the dollar i want the best kit i can get on the best ground i can use.
I did my class 2 with Crowlands out of Romford, excellent school who unfortunately are no longer going. I did my Class 1 with RoadTrain in Thurrock, absolutely brilliant school, own reversing pad set out to the requirements and factual instruction as you went, highly recommend.

Good luck in who ever you use…but you get what you pay for in my opinion…

Okay, so assesment today, went okay, little edgy on the gas, partly because i was nervous and didn’t want to look stupid so I didn’t fiddle with the seat as much as a should have. (john you’ve got a message bout that). Little trouble with the gears for some reason, kept trying to slot it around like my old powder tanker would and missing, need to be much much more gentle there. I am very happy with my positioning, I clipped one curb at a mini roundabout but that was simply because i came in to fast (silly boy). I am/was having a lot of trouble keeping both hands on the wheel especially at junctions and tight corners, I can see the line to follow but i tend to steer through it with my right arm as my left is getting ready to flick the range up and into 5th as i straighten out. Still worried about being slow and holding up traffic I think? advice on this would be usefull.
I’ve got a test booked for 5th march and 2 days training before that, It’ve been nice to only do one day then test but realistically I think I need the 2 days.
Thanks all

Ste
