I’m looking at taking my class 2 & make a career out of driving , my classes start in 4 weeks time so i’d just like to ask a couple of questions on here anonymously, So i dont heve to ask the trainer & look daft
1st question is, you have to take a 45min break after 4.5hs driving or, 15min break after 2hrs , why wouldnt you just drive 4.5hrs then take your 45min, why mess about braking it up ?
Also, how hard is learning a digital tacho ? the wagon i’m booked in doesnt have a digital tacho & if i pass i dont want to turn up at on my first job vlueless getting the tacho wrong .

All the regulation state is you have to take 45 mins break after 4.5 hour driving but this can be split, the first part being a minimum of 15 mins and the second part being a minimum of 30 mins. There is no requirement for you to take 15 mins wftrr 2 hour driving. You could take 15 mins just after starting your shift and then the 30 after 4.5 hrs. Spliting breaks can help with using your time efficiently during the day, enabling you to get loaded ect

Classes for what ?

Ever tried to drive for 4.5 hours without a break ? - you can be very tired and unsafe after 2/3 hours

If I had a 4.5 hr drive I’ll do a 15 about halfway just to stretch my legs then 30 later.

And to answer your 2nd question you can download step by step guides from the tinterweb i’m sure someone will be along soon to show you or visit the Newbie section.

I find trying to explain hours rules etc to someone completely fresh is stupidly confusing. (Not the fault of the poster).

Tbh I had the basics down after my test, but learnt it down pat by actually doing it cos there are so many situations variations to a working day it’s nigh on impossible to cover everything.

Maybe another reason to simplify regs.

Actually ill amend that - the hours regs are fairly straight forward. Putting them into practice in an actual working day is the effort.

That’s because they were written by desk jockey’s

Hi Dribbly,

I’ve moved your topic (away from the blood and thunder of the main forum  ) to where I think it can be better discussed.

Personally I don’t always want to hang around for a 45 minute stop somewhere, I’ll usually stop mid morning for a 15-20 minute break and take the 30 around lunch time. I don’t tend to drive for more than about 6 hours on most days so I can adjust my breaks to suit.

Well not classes, lessons. Yes i sit in my a.d.t seat from 7am - 6 or 7 pm only getting out for a ■■■■■.

I’m one for getting stuff done so go like a bullet to make sure things are done then chill for the remainder of my time, i dont like to be up against it so ‘getting’ to where ever or ’ most of th work done’ as soon as i can makes me struggle at sitting somewhere when ive got places to be, if you see what i mean. Perhaps i’m looking at the wrong kind of work.
Anyway i must thank you for the replies it’s much appreciated, i might go as a drivers mate at first to pick things up.
